Selon Bloomberg, Blackstone a pris une participation dans le hedge fund Solus Alternative Asset Management. Cet investissement permet aux fondateurs du fonds spécialisé dans les stratégies «event driven» de céder leurs parts et de préparer graduellement leur futur départ. Blackstone a levé plus de 3 milliards dollars afin de prendre des participations de 15 % à 25 % dans des hedge funds dont les fondateurs prévoient de céder leurs parts, note Bloomberg. L’investissement dans le capital de Solus Alternative AM est le deuxième de ce type.

Alors que la banque privée de Credit Suisse en France est devenue une succursale du groupe au Luxembourg depuis le 1er janvier, son dirigeant réfute l’idée d’y voir un signe de repli. « Nous ne sommes pas en train de réduire la voilure en France, bien au contraire, déclare Pierre Fleuriot, le président de Credit Suisse en France, Belgique et Luxembourg, dans un entretien au quotidien Les Echos. Nous y recrutons des banquiers privés depuis plusieurs mois et nos actifs sous gestion ont crû de plus de 10 % sur un an, hors éléments exceptionnels. » Pour Pierre Fleuriot, ce rattachement vise à promouvoir l’accès de la gamme luxembourgeoise auprès des clients français, en particulier les fonds dédiés créés sur mesure, les fonds de gestion alternative et de private equity. De fait, depuis 2013, Credit Suisse, très centré sur la banque d’investissement, a l’ambition de se renforcer sur la gestion de fortune à l’instar d’UBS. En Europe, le groupe concentre ainsi ses efforts sur les plus grands patrimoines et optimise ses ressources, selon le quotidien économique. En France, Pierre Fleuriot indique que la priorité est donnée aux fortunes de plus d’un million d’euros. « Le modèle de banque intégrée que nous proposons à nos clients, dit-il, est particulièrement adapté aux besoins des clients fortunés (HNWI) ou très fortunés (UHNWI) », avance-t-il.
Au sein de Goldman Sachs Group, la division « Investment Management » constitue la plus petite unité. Mais le groupe bancaire américain continue à vouloir faire grandir cette activité, qui pèse 1.000 milliards de dollars, afin de rattraper la concurrence.Timothy O’Neill et Eric Lane, co-responsables de la gestion d’actifs, voient un potentiel de croissance important pour cette activité. Ils anticipent que la croissance de Goldman Sachs Asset Management, dont les clients sont de gros institutionnels, devrait se situer au-delà des 10 % par an, selon Bloomberg. La gestion privée, dédiée aux clients fortunés, devrait croître à un rythme encore plus soutenu, estiment-ils. La croissance devrait être soutenue par un intérêt grandissant pour les produits alternatifs et une plus importante externalisation de la gestion de portefeuille de la part de fonds de pension et sociétés d’assurance.
Le plus gros fonds de Brevan Howard Asset Management a progressé cette année de 3,6% après avoir subi sa première perte en 2014, selon une personne proche de la société, rapporte l’agence Bloomberg. Le Brevan Howard Master Fund, qui joue sur les tendances macro-économiques, a progressé sur la période courant du début de l’année jusqu’au 6 mars malgré un recul de 0,6% le mois dernier. Les hedge funds macro ont progressé en moyenne de 2,8% sur les deux premiers mois de l’année, selon les données de Hedge Fund Research. Le Master Fund, dont les actifs sous gestion constituent la plus grande partie de l’encours total de Brevan Howard, soit quelque 27 milliards de dollars, a pour la première fois en 2014, enregistré un recul de 0,8%, après des gains de 12% en 2011, 3,9% en 2012 et 2,7% en 2013.
Newton Investment Management (Newton IM), filiale du groupe BNY Mellon, a annoncé la nomination de Henrietta Jowitt et Susan Noble en qualité d’administratrices indépendantes non-exécutives au sein de son conseil d’administration. Les deux intéressées sont les premières administratrices indépendantes nommées par la société de gestion. Elles rejoignent un conseil d’administration composé de sept administrateurs exécutifs et de deux administrateurs de BNY Mellon. Susan Noble, qui compte plus de 20 ans d’expérience dans le secteur de la gestion, a occupé des fonctions clés chez Robert Fleming Asset Management et Goldman Sachs Asset Management. Elle est actuellement administratrice non-exécutive de British Empire Securities and General Trust et d’Alliance Trust.Pour sa part, Henrietta Jowitt a occupé plusieurs postes de responsable marketing senior dans l’industrie des services financiers, ayant notamment travaillé chez Advent International Corporation et Schroders. Plus récemment, elle a fondé Rotation Point Limited, une société de conseil en stratégie. Ces deux nominations interviennent après celle de James Wylie au conseil d’administration de Newton en qualité de responsable de l’Amérique du Nord en mai 2014.
BlackRock participe aussi à la guerre des prix dans le monde des ETF. Selon le Financial Times, le gestionnaire américain a décidé de passer de 0,4 % par an à 0,07 % les frais de gestion du iShares FTSE 100 Ucits ETF. In fact, its flagship product Bestifond has earned 18.78% since the beginning of the year, while its Bestinver International fund has earned returns of 19.53% since 1 January 2015. “Our commitment is to earn the best long-term returns,” Beltran de la Lastra, the new chief investment officer at Bestinver, tells Cinco Dias. “With our ‘investing value’ management, we seek out the best returns for investors in our funds.” The Spanish website notes that the departure of Paramés in September 2014 had a negative effect on the asset management firm, in the form of a net outflow of more than EUR2.5bn. Since then, the pace of the outflows has slowed considerably, with only EUR4.2m in net redemptions in February, while March may be the first month in which Bestinver has begun to earn positive net subscriptions. “The evolution of flows is totally positive, and we can say that it has stabilized,” de la Lastra says. “What is important now is to start getting through to investors with our value proposal again.”

He will be based in San Francisco, California, and will be responsible for directing the activity serving US intermediaries, including family offices, broker-dealers, and clients of the private bank. He will report to Frank Wheeler, global head of distribution and marketing at Matthews Asia. Chow previously spent three years in the position of senior vice president and head of development at Voya Investment Management (formerly ING Investment Management in the United States). Before that, he was head of retail distribution for the United States at FAF Advisors / First American Funds. Matthews Asia, a specialist in investment in Asian markets, has USD27.8bn in assets under management as of 31 January 2015.

As of the end of 2013, the structure had EUR13.5bn in assets. In asset management alone, Schroders Italia posted growth of 36% in 2014, with net subscriptions of EUR3.86bn. “2014 was a record year for the Schroders group, with total assets under management of EUR386.6bn, and profits per share up 17%. As to our presence in Italy, we are particuarly pleased to have reached the symbolic 20-year point with the best inflows in asset management ever recorded by an Italian team,” says Massimo Tosato, executive vice chairman at Schroders, who was in Milan for a 20-year birthday celebration. He adds that “last year, Italy also stood out as the most profitable country in continental Europe.”

Net inflows to funds represented over CHF8bn, the Swiss Funds & Asset Management Association (SFAMA) announced on 18 March. The good performance of the equity markets also contributed to growth in assets. All categories of funds posted inflows, including bond funds, but this situation may develop, in light of historically low interest rates, which will scarcely satisfy the returns required by many institutional investors. Funds specialised in equities have posted the strongest inflows (CHF4.31bn), followed by bond funds (CHF3.14bn) and strategic funds (CHF1.23bn). The rankings of banks for sales change in no respect whatsoever: UBS, with a market share of 25.7%, leads Credit Suisse (14.7%), Pictet (5.8%), Swisscanto (5%), BlackRock (4.6%), ZKB (4.5%), Swiss & Global Asset Management (3.1%), Lombard Odier (2.3%), Vontobel (1.5%) and JPMorgan (1.4%).

Assenagon Asset Management, founded in 2007, now has over EUR14bn in assets under management. With the opening of the Frankfurt office, its teams will have a total of 70 people serving institutional and family office clients.

Two thirds of these organizations (62%) also say that risk is the most important element to consider when managing an investment portfolio, while 31% cite returns. In terms of performance objectives, two thirds of charities aim for inflation plus a return on their investment, while 38% cite a combination of several market indicators. Three quarters use a benchmark index based on the markets to calibrate the performance of their investments, while 44% say they use a non-constraining benchmark. Despite economic uncertainty, more than 80% of charities say they remain invested in equities, while 56% are also exposed to bonds and real estate.
Les encours de CPR Asset Management ont augmenté de 12% en 2013 par rapport à 2014, à plus de 28 milliards d’euros, un plus haut historique selon le gérant. La collecte nette s’élève à 2 milliards d’euros sur l’année. Les classes d’actifs moyen long terme ont collecté plus de 3 milliards d’euros (1,7 milliard sur les actions, 900 millions sur les taux et 400 millions sur les diversifiés) tandis que la gestion monétaire a essuyé une décollecte de 1 milliard.
La banque centrale du Danemark, qui a abaissé récemment ses taux en territoire négatif après les mesures prises par la banque nationale suisse et la BCE, a décidé d’augmenter le montant que les banques du pays sont autorisées à détenir dans leurs comptes courants de 37 milliards à 145 milliards de couronnes danoises. Les dépôts ont ainsi atteint 356 milliards de couronnes en début de mois, alors qu’ils n’étaient que de 100 milliards il y a un an, a indiqué l’autorité dont l’objectif est de maintenir le peg avec l’euro.
Le recours à l’emprunt des collectivités locales françaises devrait rester stable cette année autour de 18 milliards d’euros du fait notamment d’une baisse de leurs investissements qui compenserait la diminution programmée des dotations de l’Etat, estime Standard & Poor’s. Dans une étude publiée mercredi, l’agence de notation anticipe ensuite une hausse à 20 milliards d’euros pour 2016 qui proviendrait pour l’essentiel du bloc communal (municipalités et intercommunalités). Avec des tombées annuelles d’emprunts qui devraient rester relativement stables autour de 13 à 14 milliards d’euros sur la période, l’encours de dettes des collectivités continuerait sa progression graduelle pour s’inscrire à 152-153 milliards en 2016. Il représenterait alors 78% de leurs recettes de fonctionnement, contre 73% fin 2014, un niveau qui, par comparaison internationale, «resterait modéré», indique S&P.
Selon la Banque des réglements internationaux, 2.400 milliards de dollars de titres de dette souveraine se négociaient à des rendements négatifs fin février.

L’autorité américaine des marchés financiers (SEC) entend se concentrer davantage sur les agences de notation et la problématique de la valorisation des fonds, indique l’un de ses responsables, Andrew Ceresney. La SEC a notamment décidé de renommer sa division des «produits structurés et novateurs» en division des «instruments financiers complexes».
