Inflows were driven by diversified funds (SEK8.4bn) and equity funds (SEK7.2bn). In this latter category, global equity funds, North American equity funds and Indian equity funds were the most popular categories with over SEK2bn each. In January, only money market funds saw outflows, with net redemptions of SEK2.1bn. As of the end of January, assets in Swedish funds totalled SEK3.136bn, nearly EUR332bn, of which about 56% went to equity funds.

Invest to Amundi. With this operation, announced on 24 October 2014, the French group takes control of EUR5bn in assets under management at Bawag P.S.K. Invest. The latter firm will retain its name and its commercial brand, but will adopt the tagline “a member of the Amundi group.” Meanwhile, Amundi and the Bawag P.S.K. group have signed a long-term partnership, by the terms of which Bawag P.S.K. will sell Amundi products, as well as those of its former affiliate, via its physical distribution networks (500 branches throughout Austria) and its digital channels. “Amundi will continue to develop the activities of Bawag P.S.K. Invest in Austria,” a statement says. “This acquisition and the long-term partnership with Bawag P.S.K. will allow us to initiate a presence in Austria and to access one of the strongest distribution franchises,” says Yves Perrier, CEO of Amundi.

According to the “Global Pension Assets Study” by the Towers Watson agency, the largest pension funds in the world posted growth in their assets of 6.1% in 2014, after an increase of about 10% in 2013, in the 16 largest markets, to a record total of USD36.119trn in assets under management. “This growth continues a trend begun in 2009, when assets increased by 18%, in reaction to a 22% drop in 2008, when assets fell to USD20trn,” the agency notes. “Global assets in pension funds have increased by an average of 6% per year since 2004.” Assets in defined contribution regimes have undergone rapid growth over the 10 years preceding 2014, with an annual growth rate of 7%, compared with a growth rate of 4% for defined benefit regimes. As a result, assets in defined contribution regimes have increased from 38% of total assets in pension funds as of 2004 to 47% in 2014. Assets in pension funds now total 84.4% of the global gross domestic product (GDP), “a notable increase compared with the 54% they represented in 2008.” Lastly, the study finds that the largest markets are the United States, the United Kingdom and Japan, which represent 61,2%, 9.2% and 7.9% of total pension fund assets, respectively. The study covers the 16 largest pension fund markets in the world: Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, the Netherlands, South Africa, South Korea, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States.

The GPIF has selected Schroder Investment Management (Japan), Daiwa SB Investments and Nomura Asset Management to manage three national equity mandates, but does not give further details as to the mandates or their values. The GPIF has also retained UBS Global Asset Management (Japan) to manage an international equity mandate.

That corresponds to a doubling of assets since 2004, when German funds had a total of EUR1.151trn in assets. In 2014, institutional funds alone totalled EUR1,231bn, another record, compared with EUR1,071bn as of the end of 2013. Mandates also set a record last year, with EUR363bn (compared with EUR318bn in 2013), while open-ended funds as of the end of 2014 had EUR788bn, compared with EUR716bn one year previously. The success of funds is due to a growing interest on the part of investors in a low interest rate environment. Funds in 2014 saw record inflows of EUR123,4bn. Last year, inflows to institutional funds totalled EUR91bn, another record, and an increase of EUR14.3bn in inflows compared with 2013. Net subscriptions to open-ended funds totalled EUR32.4bn, the largest year in terms of inflows since 2005 (EUR47.4bn), compared with EUR18.7bn in 2013. For open-ended funds, diversified funds were particularly popular, and posted record net inflows of EUR22.7bn. Their assets as of the end of 2014 totalled EUR176bn, compared with EUR144bn at the end of 2013. Equity funds, for their part, saw redemptions of about EUR10.2bn. Bond funds, for their part, attracted EUR16.9bn, compared with EUR8.8bn in 2013. European bond funds in particular posted inflows of EUR9bn, and corporate bond funds EUR4bn.

Its assets under management last year topped EUR3bn, at EUR3.1bn, compared with EUR2.5bn at the end of 2013, Marie Ballorain, director of development for France and Belgium, announced at an investors’ meeting on 10 February.About three quarters of this growth is due to sustained subscriptions throughout the past year. Emblematic of this development, the Acatis Gané Value Event Fonds has assets that have increased from about EUR350m in March 2013 to about EUR1bn.Another point of satisfaction for Ballorain, who arrived at Acatis less than two years ago, is that activities in her area of intervention have developed very satisfactorily. Assets within her area of responsibility, France and Belgium, have topped EUR100bn, with inflows slightly larger from the Belgian side.
Man GLG, the discretionary investment management business of Man Group, has hired Himanshu Gulati as head of US distressed credit, based in New York.Gulati, who joins from Perry Capital, the US hedge fund business, will manage a new distressed investment strategy which Man GLG plans to launch later this year. Gulati, a specialist in distressed and special situations investing, joins Man GLG after almost nine years at Perry Capital where he was a managing partner responsible for distressed credit and special situations investments. Prior to Perry Capital, Gulati worked at Rockview Capital, a credit focused fund. In addition, he held a prior role at Merrill Lynch within the Leveraged Finance division. Gulati will report to Man GLG’s co-CEO Mark Jones.

The ETF aims to replicate the Barclays Euro Corporate FRN 0-7Y Enhanced Duration, composed of floating rate notes which deliver a credit risk premium paid by issuing companies on a range of maturity dates from 0 to 7 years, while benefiting from low sensitivity to an increase in long-term rates. The index has a 50% weighting for 0-3 year issues and for 3-7 year issues respectively. The advantage of this allocation is to overweight 3-7 year issues, with the objective of obtaining higher returns than the variable rate bond indices currently available on the market, a statement says. As of 31 January 2015, the returns at maturity of the Barclays Euro Corporate FRN 0-7Y Enhanced Duration index was Euribor 3 month + 0.33%.
Les encours globaux sous gestion ont progressé de 3,5% en 2014, à un record de 3.227 milliards d’euros, selon les statistiques communiquées mercredi par l’Association française de la gestion financière (AFG). Dans le détail, l’encours des OPC de droit français a augmenté de 2,7%, à 1.580 milliards d’euros, et de 6% hors fonds monétaires. Par classe d’actifs, les fonds obligataires ont inscrit la plus forte progression en grimpant de 14,7%, à 238 milliards d’euros. Les fonds actions ont pour leur part progressé de 3,8%, à 282,2 milliards d’euros. «Les clients de la gestion française ont bénéficié d’effets de marché globalement positifs qui ont soutenu la valorisation des fonds actions et orientés actions, cependant toujours en décollecte même si c’est à un rythme plus faible», note cependant l’AFG. Les mandats (y compris OPC de droit étranger) ont pour leur part enregistré une hausse de 4,2%, à 1.640 milliards d’euros.
La société de gestion Vatel Capital annonce l’acquisition de Champlain Ressources Naturelles, gérant de la société Foncière Forestière, auprès de Financière Champlain, filiale du Groupe Crédit Coopératif. Créée en 2010, la Foncière Forestière acquiert et exploite des forêts principalement situées en France, pour le compte d’environ 500 actionnaires. Vatel Capital gérait 150 millions d’euros d’encours fin 2014.
Confronté à la baisse de ses rentrées en dollars avec l’effondrement des cours du pétrole, le Venezuela a annoncé mardi une libéralisation partielle de son régime de change, qui devrait se traduire par une forte dépréciation du bolivar, au risque d’alimenter l’inflation. La nouvelle plateforme ne se substituera que partiellement aux trois régimes de change fixe (à 6,3 bolivars pour les denrées de base, à 12 et à 52 bolivars). Baptisée système de change marginal ou Simadi, elle fournira un cadre légal pour les transactions en devises sur la base d’une confrontation de l’offre et de la demande. Le dollar s'échange toutefois à près de 190 bolivars sur le marché noir, selon le site largement utilisé dolartoday.com. Marcos et Merentes n’ont pas précisé quel serait le taux pratiqué à l’ouverture dans les prochains jours. Des courtiers interrogés par Reuters anticipent autour de 120 bolivars pour un dollar. Invesco a enregistré une collecte nette de plus de 860 millions de dollars (762 millions d’euros) l’an dernier en France, en progression de 30% sur un an, soutenue par les investisseurs institutionnels, les banques privées et les fonds de fonds. La société de gestion américaine a ainsi vu ses encours atteindre 4,5 milliards de dollars pour la clientèle française en fin d’année dernière.
Idinvest Partners a annoncé hier le lancement de son troisième fonds de dette senior «Idinvest Dette Senior III», avec un objectif de collecte de 500 millions d’euros. Idinvest renforce ainsi son activité de private debt, qui représente désormais plus de 1,3 milliard d’euros. En 2014, Idinvest a levé 395 millions avec IDS II, investi à hauteur de 60 % à ce jour. Le premier fonds de dette senior avait collecté 281 millions en 2013.
La Française (filiale du Crédit Mutuel Nord Europe) a signé un partenariat stratégique avec Alger Management, une société de gestion d’actifs spécialisée dans les actions américaines et affiliée à Fred Alger Management. Le gérant français va prendre 49,9% de son capital. Deux dirigeants de La Française siègeront au conseil d’administration d’Alger.
Les actifs mondiaux des fonds de pension des 16 principaux marchés de retraite ont augmenté de 6% en 2014, à 36.000 milliards de dollars, selon la dernière étude annuelle réalisée par Towers Watson. Les encours enregistrent ainsi une nouvelle année de croissance après celle de 10% constatée en 2013, qui s’inscrivait dans le rebond initié depuis 2009. Les régimes à cotisations définies ont porté leur part dans les encours globaux de 38% en 2004 à 47% en 2014.

Selon les nouvelles méthodes appliquées par l’Institut de recherche économique allemand DIW, le patrimoine a progressé de 3.000 milliards d’euros outre-Rhin depuis la précédente étude de 2012, indique le quotidien munichois. Il atteint désormais 9.300 milliards. Mais les inégalités se sont considérablement élargies : 0,1% des ménages allemands concentrent entre 14 et 16% des actifs, contre 5% il y a trois ans.
