Assets under management at La Française reached EUR50.2bn at the end of March 2015, compared with EUR48.3bn as of 31 December 2014. The asset management firm has thus in 2015 reached the symbolic EUR50bn mark, in line with its declared objective.Since 2010, assets under management have risen by 44%, and last year, all professional areas in the group brought positive net contributions, Patrick Rivère, CEO, said last week in Madrid at a press conference. In the coming years, the gorup will put the emphasis on international growth. The objective in the next fie years is to bring internationally-sourced assets under management up from 10% currently to 20% of total assets, which may then total about EUR72bn, says Philippe Lecomte, CEO of La Française International. By 2020, international activity is thus expected to generate 50% of net inflows, compared with 25% currently.Particular effort will be dedicated to the Asian region. Lecomte has also decided to take resopnsibility for the development of activity in Asia himself. This activity is directed from Hong Kong, where La Française has developed a partnership with JK Partners, and where it has sales staff to cover Korea and Singapore. La Française has also developed a partnership in Taiwan with TPM (Transglobe), and it is developing its activities in Japan with the assistnance of a local partner.Lecomte estimates that it is still early to take on the Chinese market, but adds that in two to three years, the experience at La Française in partnerships may help it into a market where it is impossible to develop without creating a joint venture with a local player. Another attractve market is India, where La Française has not yet found a local partner, but where developments may yet be coming.Currently, Asian assets represent a few hundred million, with EUR250m from Korea, EUR100m from Taiwan, and EUR100m from Singapore. But the declared objective is to bring this proportion of international assets up from 10% to about 30% by 2020. Latin America, which has assets of EUR100m, would weigh in at 10%, and Europe outside the local market, 60%.In other words, Europe will still be a driver of growth at La Française internationally. Currently, Benelux, with the Luxembourg platform, represents assets of EUR1.5bn, followed by the United Kingdom, which accounts for EUR1bn, and Scandinavian countries (EUR800m). These are followed by Italy and Spain, with assets of EUR300m and EUR400m, respectively.Development in Europe will continue, largely in Germany, where La Française already has a very large team dedicated to real estate, but where it has just recruited a salesperson, an Invesco veteran who knows real estate well, in addition to other asset classes.
