Après trois mois de déclin, les prix à la consommation (hors alimentaire) au Japon ont regagné 0,1% en novembre comparé à la période correspondante de 2014, selon le bureau des statistiques. Le panel Bloomberg tablait sur une stagnation. La recherche de SMBC Nikko Securities estime que la Banque du Japon pourrait abaisser encore une fois le mois prochain ses prévisions sur la croissance des prix en raison d’une nouvelle glissade des prix du pétrole.

Le produit intérieur brut (PIB) du Vietnam a progressé de 7,01% au quatrième trimestre comparé à la période correspondante de 2014, ce qui marque une accélération par rapport au gain révisé de 6,87% enregistré au troisième trimestre. Ces données ont été publiées par le bureau des statistiques générales à Hanoï. La croissance économique vietnamienne «a pris de l’élan progressivement et elle est désormais soutenue à la fois par les exportations des entreprises à capitaux étrangers et par la demande domestique», a souligné Jonathan Dunn, le représentant local du FMI.

Les parlementaires ukrainiens ont approuvé le budget pour l’année prochaine. Il prévoit un déficit de 3,7% du PIB, en ligne avec les exigences fixées par le FMI. «L’approbation du budget est une étape importante pour recevoir la prochaine tranche d’aide de la part du FMI ainsi que d’autres aides financières internationales qui sont liées», a déclaré le ministère ukrainien des Finances. Les experts du FMI devront toutefois vérifier que ce budget satisfait l’ensembles des critères associés au programme du FMI.

Le conseil monétaire national brésilien a réduit de 2%, à 19,1 milliards de réaux, les fonds affectés à un dispositif public de soutien qui vise à favoriser le financement de biens d’équipement. Il s’agit de la deuxième fois depuis octobre que le gouvernement coupe dans les subventions publiques. Cette réduction touche en particulier un programme dédié au financement de la recherche et développement, de l’innovation et du capital-risque.

L’Etat malien a signé un accord avec China Railway Corp pour rénover une ligne ferroviaire reliant la capitale Bamako à la frontière sénégalaise. Le coût du projet s’élève à 1,48 milliard d’euros, a précisé le ministère des Transports. Le groupe chinois a paraphé un accord similaire avec le Sénégal jeudi dernier. La réfection de la section malienne du projet portera sur 644 kilomètres de voies ferrées et 22 gares.

Le gouvernement sud-africain a donné le coup d’envoi d’un processus qui pourrait conduire à une augmentation de 9.600 mégawatts de sa capacité de production d’électricité d’origine nucléaire, a annoncé dimanche le ministère de l’Energie. La première étape de ce processus, a-t-il précisé, consistera en un appel à propositions ouvert au secteur nucléaire, les propositions éventuelles devant faire l’objet d’un examen détaillé par le gouvernement avant le lancement d’un appel d’offres formel.

Before serving as managing director for Europe, Hammond served as senior director for the United Kingdom and Northern Europe. According to Financial News, citing a source familiar with the matter, Hammond is reportedly in talks to take up a senior position at AllianceBernstein. Legal & General Capital has also engaged to construct a portfolio of wind farms in the United Kingdom, via the first closing of a dedicated fund which will aim to raise capital of EUR250m. In detail, the fund is aiming to construct wind farms to provide 270 MW of electricity production. Legal & General will provide 47.5% of capital for the new fund, while NTR will contribute EUR50m. The fund is aimed specifically at institutional investors. The investment strategy of Legal & General in clean energies targets wind farms and solar power as priorities. The firm has set an objective of GBP15bn (EUR20.3bn) in investment in British infrastructure, particularly in infrastructure dedicated to renewable energies. Legal & General Capital has so far invested GBP6.6bn (or about EUR9bn).

At the new firm, Bhansali will serve as chief investment officer. Bhansali, 49, worked for 16 years at Pimco, where for the past eight years he served as managing director and head of the quantitative portfolios team, which he created in 2008. In this role, he was responsible for the management of about USD50bn in hypothetical value in extreme risk portfolios for somme of the world’s largest companies, pension funds, hedge funds, and sovereign funds. At Pimco, Bhansali was also lead portfolio manager and the designer of the algorithm behind the Pimco Trends Managed Futures Fund, which was the first systematic common investment fund from Pimco. At the California-based business, he also managed all analytical funds from Pimco between 2000 and 2010. Bhansali, who has 24 years of experience in the asset management activity, began his career at Citibank, where he founded and managed the trading desk dedicated to hybrid and exotic options. He then joined Salomon Brothers Fixed Income Arbitrage Group, where he was responsible for trading of options on foreign currencies and municipal bonds. After that, he joined the proprietary trading group at Credit Suisse Boston.

The asset management firm has about 63 employees in Asia, including emerging market portfolio managers and operational teams, and is now seeking to add to its support and sales teams significantly in the region during the next two years. “We are just beginning to have fund distribution in Asia,” says Matt Shafer, head of international distribution at NGAM, in an interview with Asian Investor. “We would like to position ourselves for distribution in China, but we have not yet decided on our roadmap.” NGAM is also planning to launch at least two new funds aimed at Asian investors in 2016, including a long-short market neutral strategy, from its affiliate DNCA, and a managed futures fund from Alpha Simplex.

Its volume of assets under management would put it in the top 30 Spanish asset management firms, on the basis of statistics from Inverco, the Spanish asset management professional association, as of the end of November. Funds from AzValor are all domiciled in Spain. AzValor is not planning to stop when things are going so well. The asset management firm, which has obtained permission from the financial sector surveillance commission (CSSF), the Luxembourg reguator, is already created a Luxembourg Sicav to launch its international activity, and thus to be able to distribute its funds in the major European countries. The Sicav includes the sub-fund AzValor International, Funds People reports. In a second phase, AzValor would like to launch a pension fund, the asset management firm has told the Spanish news website.

Nieto had previously worked as a private banker at Banco Santander.

Claren Road Asset Management is thus expected to start 2016 with USD1.25bn in assets, far from the USD8.5bn in assets recorded in September 2014, according to the same anonymous source. The firm has however asked its clients to wait until next week for a positive response to these redemption requests, in the hopes that a more limited number of them will ultimately decide to withdraw from the fund. Claren Road Asset Management has suffered enormously in the past 15 months, victim to both poor performance and an exodus of investors. In third quarter, the firm had already posted redemption requests totalling about USD2bn.

The Geneva-based firm is participating in the US programme in category L. Sun Capital Partners qui possède Vroom & Dreesman (V&D), la première chaîne de grands magasins aux Pays-Bas a refusé d’apporter un financement d’urgence à l’enseigne qui s’est retrouvée à court de liquidités ces derniers mois en raison également d’une faiblesse des ventes. Hier, rapporte L’Agefi, la chaîne a annoncé avoir obtenu d'être mise à l’abri de ses créanciers après l'échec de son plan de redressement.

La société de gestion d’actifs espagnole, lancée début octobre par trois anciens de Bestinver – à savoir Alvaro Guzman de Lazaro, Fernando Bernad et Beltran Parages – a en effet capté 800 millions d’euros d’encours auprès d’investisseurs institutionnels et particuliers en Espagne et à l’étranger, rapporte le site spécialisé Funds People. Un volume d’actifs sous gestion qui la situerait dans le Top 30 des sociétés de gestion ibériques, sur la base de données à fin novembre d’Inverco, l’association professionnelle espagnole de la gestion d’actifs.
