They accuse Rupert Murdoch of “nepotism” in his acquisition of Shine Group, a filmmaking firm, from his daughter Elizabeth, with the sole objective of allowing her to profit from the wealth of the group and to strengthen the family’s influence on the board of News Corp. Murdoch’s daughter has been offered a seat on the board in addition to USD675m paid for her business.

The net asset value of the fund had already been lowered by 4.45% recently (see Newsmanagers of 3 March), due to the depreciation of three properties in Tokyo.Now, the suspension is explained as a result of the fact that seven Tokyo properties in the portfolio represent 14% of total assets for the fund. The other real estate funds from UIRE are also invested in Tokyo, but to a lesser extent, and consequently none of them have been frozen for the moment.

Up to now, the Swedish ETF market has been dominated by Handelsbanken, with its XACT Fonder company.The first ETFs from SEB are three products - SpotR, SpotR Bull and SpotR Bear – based on the OMXS30 index, the benchmark index of the Swedish market. The first ETF simply tracks the index; the second has leverage of two, and the third has inverse leverage of two.

p { margin-bottom: 0.08in; } The number of open-ended pension funds worldwide investing in hedge funds has risen from 196 in 2007 to 295 currently, and average allocation in this asset class in the same time has risen from 3.6% to 3.6%, according to the most recent study by the consultant Preqin. Rowe Price International has announced the recruitment of Viral Patel, who from 2007 had been vice president, research analyst at the Sydney offices of AllianceBernstein. Patel joins the T. Rowe Price offices in Sydney as associate director of research for Australia, and with three people who will subsequently be recruited, will be in charge of strengthening the firm’s capacities in analysis of Australian equities. He will report to Randel Jenneke, who joined T. Rowe Price in June 2010 to build a local management team in Australia.The new team will come as an addition to its global staff of 121 analysts located in Baltimore, London, Buenos Aires, Hong Kong, Singapore and Tokyo, and will allow the firm to offer specific strategies for Australian equities to local investors as well as clients in the Asia-Pacific region.
La ministre de l’Economie, Christine Lagarde, et Augustin de Romanet, directeur général de la Caisse des Dépôts, ont signé le cadre de gestion du fonds d’épargne. Cet accord qui ne prévoit pas de limite de durée formalise les relations entre l’Etat et la Caisse des Dépôts pour la gestion des fonds centralisés de l’épargne réglementée (dont le livret A), qui assurent principalement le financement du logement social en France.
Selon les données de l’institut de l’épargne immobilière et foncière (IEIF), un flux d’achat de près de 3 milliards d’euros s’est porté en 2010, pour un tiers vers les SCPI Scellier et, ce qui est encore plus significatif du retour de l’épargne vers l’immobilier, pour deux tiers vers les SCPI non fiscales. Ce flux a nourri le marché secondaire des parts à hauteur de 417 millions d’euros et la collecte nette s’est établie à 2,5 milliards d’euros, portant ainsi la capitalisation du secteur à 22,3 milliards d’euros.
«Les pouvoirs publics ne font rien pour favoriser les acteurs de long terme», s’est plaint Paul-Henri de La Porte Du Theil, président de l’Association française de gestion financière, lors du Forum Gestion Institutionnelle mercredi à Paris. «Avec Bâle 3 et Solvency 2, tout est fait pour décourager les banques et les compagnies d’assurances d’investir sur le long terme», a-t-il déploré, tout en s’inquiétant des projets de réforme fiscale. Un constat partagé par Jean-Pierre Grimaud, président de l’Association française des investisseurs institutionnels, pour lequel la décollecte sur les fonds monétaires n’est pas uniquement liée à la faiblesse des taux, mais aussi à des réallocations de flux vers les bilans bancaires. Selon lui, les nouveaux dispositifs prudentiels bancaires et assurantiels rendent difficile la détention plus ou moins longue d’actifs risqués. A ce rythme, «il ne va rester que les fonds souverains et les grands fonds de pension américains», conclut Paul-Henri de La Porte Du Theil.
Des autorités de régulation enquêtant sur des possibles manipulations du taux Libor, qui sert de référence pour les prêts interbancaires, ciblent cinq banques en particulier, a rapporté Reuters jeudi de source proche de la situation. Bank of America, Citigroup, Barclays, WestLB et UBS sont l’objet d’enquêtes aux Etats-Unis, en Grande-Bretagne et au Japon.

La banque centrale indienne a relevé ses taux d’intérêt jeudi pour la huitième fois depuis mars 2010, afin de juguler l’inflation qui affecte particulièrement les prix du carburant et des produits manufacturiers. La Reserve Bank a relevé le taux repo, principal taux de refinancement, de 25 points de base à 6,75% et le taux des ventes à réméré à 5,75%. L’indice des prix de gros a contre toute attente progressé pour atteindre 8,3% en février en rythme annuel.
Les marchés semblent se reprendre, les regards restant tournés vers les tentatives de refroidissement des réacteurs nucléaires de la centrale de Fukushima au Japon. La Bourse de Tokyo a fini en baisse de 1,44% jeudi, au terme d’une séance volatile. L’indice Nikkei a perdu 131,05 points à 8.962,67 points. A noter que l’opérateur de la centrale nucléaire endommagée au nord de tokyo, Tokyo Electric Power, a dévissé de plus de 13% sur la seule séance de jeudi. La Bourse de Paris se maintenait dans le vert jeudi en fin de matinée (+1,03%).
L’Agence France Trésor annonce l’adjudication, le lundi 21 mars, d’un montant global de 8,5 milliards d’euros de bons du Trésor (BTF). Cette opération portera sur 4,5 milliards d’euros de bons à 13 semaines qui arriveront à échéance le 23/06/11, sur 1,5 milliard d’euros de bons à 24 semaines, à échéance du 08/09/11 et sur 2,5 milliards d’euros de bons à 50 semaines, à échéance du 08/03/12. La date de règlement est fixée au 24/03/11 pour les trois lignes.
La BNS a comme prévu maintenu sa politique monétaire expansionniste. La BNS anticipe désormais une amélioration du PIB de 2% «environ» en termes réels en 2011, contre 1,5% en décembre. En matière d’inflation, la banque centrale a également revu à la hausse ses prévisions, mais ne parle plus de risques déflationnistes. La BNS table désormais sur un taux de 0,8% en 2011 et de 1,1% pour 2012 au lieu de 0,4% et 1% en décembre.
Le Trésor espagnol a émis jeudi pour 4,13 milliards d’euros d’obligations à 10 et 30 ans. La demande a été forte, atteignant les 7,7 milliards d’euros, ce qui a permis à l’Espagne d’atteindre son objectif. Pour l'émission à 10 ans, le Trésor a levé 3,219 milliards d’euros à un taux moyen de 5,162%, en baisse par rapport au taux de la dernière émission de ce type (5,20%) et à la clôture mercredi (5,174%). Pour les obligations à 30 ans, il a émis 911 millions d’euros à un taux moyen de 5,875%, là aussi inférieur par rapport à la dernière émission (5,957%) et à celui de mercredi soir (5,883%), avec également un recul des taux d’intérêt par rapport à l’émission du 17 février, ce qui confirme le regain de confiance des investisseurs.

In the low volatility category, Pioneer will add to the existing Pioneer Funds – Absolute Return Currencies, one bond fund, and later, a commodities fund.In the moderate volatility class, the management firm is planning a multi-strategy fund, a European equities fund, and an Asian equities fund.Lastly, in the high volatility category, the management firm will launch a multi-strategy growth style fund, and a fund specialised in emerging markets bonds.
