Les fonds de pension britanniques se rebiffent contre la signature d’accords de confidentialité que leur imposent les sociétés de gestion, rapporte le Financial Times fund management. Ils estiment que cette pratique entrave la concurrence et les empêche d’obtenir les meilleures affaires pour leurs membres. Ces accords de confidentialité signifient que les fonds de pension ne peuvent pas comparer les tarifs des sociétés de gestion.
La volatilité des marchés et une série de paris ayant tourné au vinaigre ont fait d’octobre un mois atroce pour un certain nombre de grands hedge funds, y compris York Capital et Discovery, rapporte le Financial Times. Plusieurs fonds global macro ont vu leur performance écornée par la hausse du dollar et les incertitudes concernant la direction des taux américains.Discovery, le hedge fund de 15 milliards de dollars géré par Robert Citrone, a vu son fonds global macro chuter de 11,2 % à mi-octobre, ce qui porte la perte totale depuis le début de l’année à 20 %. York Capital a vu son fonds principal reculer de 6 % et effacer la totalité de ses gains depuis le début de l’année.
Le groupe bancaire suédois Catella AB a annoncé la nomination de Peter Elmhorn en qualité de responsable des ventes pour le marché suédois. Il aura pour mission la poursuite du développement des activités de gestion du groupe, notamment auprès de la clientèle institutionnelle, indique un communiqué. Avant de rejoindre Catella, Peter Elmhorn, qui prendra ses fonctions le 1er décembre, a notamment travaillé chez Swedbank Försäkring, où il était responsable du développement et de la gestion produits.
Au terme du troisième trimestre, les encours sous gestion de Nordea ont atteint 256 milliards d’euros, selon le groupe scandinave, contre 248,3 milliards à la fin du trimestre précédent et 226,8 milliards au terme du troisième trimestre 2013. Depuis 2008, les encours ont doublé, souligne Nordea. La collecte nette a représenté 3,2 milliards. Ces souscriptions proviennent en majorité de la clientèle institutionnelle (1,4 milliard d’euros).Le chiffre d’affaires de la gestion de fortune de Nordea s’affiche au troisième trimestre à 392 millions d’euros, contre 420 millions au deuxième trimestre et 373 millions d’euros il y a un an.
Natixis Global Asset Management (NGAM) se renforce sur le marché nord-américain. La société de gestion française, filiale du groupe BPCE, a en effet annoncé, le 24 octobre, avoir trouvé un accord en vertu duquel Natixis acquerra toutes les actions ordinaires en circulation de NexGen Financial Corporation, une société de gestion basée à Toronto détenant plus de 919 millions de dollars canadiens d’actifs sous gestion. Le montant de la transaction n’a pas été dévoiléAvec cette opération, NGAM affiche clairement l’objectif de pénétrer le marché canadien des «mutual funds» (organismes de placements collectifs – OPC) évalué à 1.000 milliards de dollars canadiens. Et pour cause. Disposant d’une vaste plate-forme de distribution, «NexGen offre une riche gamme d’OPC destinés aux particuliers», indique John Hailer, directeur général de Natixis pour les continents américain et asiatique, cité dans un communiqué. Grâce à cette acquisition, «Natixis s’appuiera sur la plateforme d’OPC de NexGen afin de proposer certaines de ses stratégies de gestion d’actifs sur le marché des particuliers canadiens», précise la société de gestion. Dans un communiqué, le groupe français rappelle que le Canada fait partie intégrante du plan stratégique de développement mondial de Natixis. En juin, la société avait ainsi annoncé une nouvelle initiative commerciale au Canada visant à profiter de la croissance régulière de son marché institutionnel. NexGen a, pour sa part, bâti sa réputation sur des stratégies de gestion de patrimoine à optimisation fiscale. Son réseau se compose de plus de 1.600 conseillers financiers et plus de 100 courtiers à travers le Canada.Dans la lignée du modèle multi-affiliés développé par Natixis, NexGen conservera son autonomie et son équipe de direction, aucune modification des effectifs ou du modèle commercial n’étant prévue dans l’immédiat, précise NGAM.L’opération est soumise aux conditions de clôture, notamment l’agrément des tribunaux de l’Ontario, le vote favorable d’au moins deux tiers des actionnaires de NexGen et l’approbation des autorités de réglementation.
La société de gestion malaisienne RHB Asset Management (RHB AM) vient de lancer un fonds ciblant spécifiquement les titres d’entreprises ayant des caractéristiques dites entrepreneuriales, rapporte le site spécialisé Asia Asset Management. Lancé en collaboration avec Tokio Marine Asset Management, le RHB-OSK Entrepreneur Fund est un véhicule actions «growth» qui ciblera des entreprises dont le management détient au moins 5% du capital et affichant une faible valorisation, une forte croissance et un faible endettement. Le fonds se concentrera principalement sur le Japon, avec au moins 50 % de son portefeuille alloué à des actions japonaises. Le solde sera investi sur des valeurs cotées à Hong Kong, en Chine, en Corée du Sud et sur des marchés asiatiques à forte croissance comme l’Indonésie, la Thaïlande, la Malaisie ou les Philippines.
Société Générale Securities Services (SGSS) au Royaume-Uni a été mandaté par SCM Private pour fournir une solution d’externalisation administrative pour la gestion de patrimoine et d’investissements. Cette solution sera utilisée par les trois services de gestion de patrimoine en ligne SCM Direct.com, MoneyShe.com and SCM 50.com. L’offre couvre le service du front- au back-office, ainsi qu’un portail web pour l’investisseur final lui donnant accès à des services de mesure de performance, de composition de portefeuille et de suivi de positions en temps réel. Le fonds souverain du Koweit (KIA, Kuwait Investment Authority) a décidé de céder des participations dans trois activités locales valorisées au total à 1,56 milliard de dollars koweitiens, soit environ 5,4 milliards de dollars US, rapporte le site SWFI. Le fonds souverain du Qatar, Qatar Investment Authority, a accepté de verser plus de 1,1 milliard de livres à un fonds de pension coréen pour lui racheter le siège social de HSBC situé dans le quartier londonien de Canary Wharf, rapporte le Financial Times citant des personnes proches du dossier. La tour avait été acquise en 2006 à Metrovacesa pour 1,09 milliard de livres avant sa reprise par HSBC et sa vente à l’investisseur coréen pour près de 800 millions de livres.
Le marché français de l’assurance vie a enregistré une collecte nette de 2,1 milliards d’euros au mois de septembre, soit le neuvième mois consécutif de flux nets positifs, selon des chiffres publiés le 27 octobre par la Fédération française des sociétés d’assurances (FFSA) et le Groupement des entreprises mutuelles d’assurance (Gema). Au cours du mois écoulé, les cotisations brutes s’établissent à 10,1 milliards d’euros tandis que les prestations versées par les assureurs ressortent à 8 milliards d’euros.Au cours des neuf premiers mois de l’année 2014, le montant des cotisations brutes collectées atteint 95,3 milliards d’euros (contre 89,4 milliards d’euros sur les neuf premiers mois de 2013). Sur la même période, les prestations versées s’élèvent à 77,9 milliards d’euros (contre 78,1 milliards sur les neuf premiers mois de 2013). Résultat: depuis le début de l’année 2014, la collecte nette s’établit à 17,4 milliards d’euros contre 11,3 milliards à fin septembre 2013.A fin septembre 2014, l’encours des contrats d’assurance vie (provisions mathématiques + provisions pour participation aux bénéfices) s’élève à 1.505,6 milliards d’euros.

Assets under management in Wealth Management as of the end of September totalled CHF966bn, compared with CHF928bn at the end of June, while Wealth Management Americas has a total of CHF970bn, compared with CHF902bn, and Global Asset Management has a total of CHF648bn, compared with CHF621bn.

As of 30 September 2014, its net profits total USD2.38bn, compared with USD2.15bn one year previously. In fourth quarter alone, profits have risen 26%, to USD640.6m as of 30 September 2014, compared with USD509m as of 30 September 2013. The US group, based in California, has fully benefited from the growth in its assets. As of 30 September 2014, assets under management total USD898bn, compared with USD844.7bn as of 30 September 2013, for an increase of 6% year on year. This growth in assets of USD53.3bn has been driven entirely by a positive market to the tune of USD62.4bn. However, for the past year overall, Franklin Templeton has seen net outflows of USD4.6bn, after net inflows of USD24.3bn for the 2013 fiscal year. In fourth quarter alone, assets are down 2% compared with the previous quarter (USD920.5bn as of 30 June 2014), but they are up 6% compared with fourth quarter 2013 (USD844.7bn in fourth quarter 2013). In fourth quarter 2014, Franklin Templeton has suffered from a negative market effect of USD31.4bn – which includes a negative impact of USD7.2bn due to currency effects – and a net outflow of about USD100m.

Natixis will acquire all of the outstanding common shares of NexGen for consideration consisting of CAD7.25 cash per common share, for an enterprise value of approximately CAD35 million. NexGen is a Toronto-based asset manager with more than CAD919 million (as of Sept. 30, 2014) in assets under management and a broad distribution platform.“NexGen is an innovative firm with a strong management team and a solid lineup of retail mutual funds offered through an expansive distribution platform,” said John Hailer, chief executive officer of Natixis in the Americas and Asia. “We are honored to build on the legacy James Hunter established in one of the largest retail markets in the world. Notenstein includes the asset management and institutional client areas of activity at Notenstein, and the operatoin sectors of the TCMG boutiques. With this move, the Raiffeisen Group is preparing the platform which will be used from the end of first half 2017, when its partnership with Vontobel concludes. Initially, Notenstein Asset Management will administrate assets totalling nearly CHF12bn, a statement says. Aris Prepoudis, previously head of institutional clients at Notenstein Private Bank, has been appointed CEO of Notenstein Asset Management, whose chief investment officer is expected to be Peter Oertmann, currently CEO of Vescore Solutions SA. Pierin Vincenz, chairman of the board at the Raiffeisen Group, will chair the board of directors, on which Adrian Künzi, CEO of Notenstein private bank, will also sit. Beat Wittmann of TCMG Asset Management AG will advise the group during the transition and integration period. He will then serve in a role as asset manager and independent investor outside the group. Through the creation of Notenstein Asset Management, Notenstein private bank is concentrating on its core profession: wealth management for private clients in Switzerland, and certain target markets, as well as the creation of structured investment products. The separation also emphasizes the independence of the private bank in its choice of financial instruments and return components, to meet the various risk/return profiles of its clients. The transaction may then be completed by the end of November.
