L’intéressé a dédié sa carrière à la gestion de fortune. Il a notamment été managing director de la division Asset & Wealth Management de Deutsche Bank. « Nous avons comme objectif de devenir l’un des principaux acteurs de la gestion de fortune en Italie », a commenté Olivier Chatain, responsable de la banque privée pour l’Europe.
La poste italienne Poste Italiane a acquis la participation de 10,3 % du capital de la société de gestion italienne Anima Holding détenue par la banque toscane Monte dei Paschi di Siena, a annoncé cette dernière, confirmant des informations parues ces jours derniers dans la presse italienne. Cet accord capitalistique devrait s’accompagner d’un partenariat exclusif entre le groupe postal et le gestionnaire transalpin pour la distribution de produits conçus sur mesure sous la marque Poste Italiane dans le réseau des 13.000 agences postales, selon le quotidien financier Il Sole – 24 Ore. Anima est donc l’heureux élu. Ces derniers jours, des rumeurs circulaient sur le choix du partenaire de Poste Italiane. Le groupe financier d’origine sud-africaine Old Mutual, spécialisé dans l’assurance et la gestion d’actifs, a annoncé la nomination de Bruce Hemphill en qualité de directeur général («Group Chief Executive»), succédant ainsi à Julian Roberts. Ce dernier restera directeur général du groupe jusqu’à la prise de fonction effective de Bruce Hemphill, prévue au cours du quatrième trimestre 2015. Julian Roberts occupait le fauteuil de directeur général depuis septembre 2008.Bruce Hemphill, 51 ans, est actuellement directeur général des activités gestion de fortune, assurance et services financiers non-bancaires chez Standard Bank Group, le plus grand groupe bancaire africain en termes d’actifs et de résultats. Auparavant, de juin 2006 à février 2014, il a été directeur général de Liberty Group, un groupe africain de services financiers. Avant cela, il avait officié en tant que directeur général de Stanlib.
Le gestionnaire d’actifs britannique Jupiter Fund Management a annoncé une croissance de 9% de ses encours à l’issue du premier trimestre de l’année 2015. Au 31 mars, ses actifs sous gestion s’établissent ainsi à 34,76 milliards de livres contre 31,89 milliards de livres fin décembre 2014. La croissance des encours a été principalement tirée par un effet marché positif, à hauteur de 1,99 milliard de livres. Sur les trois premiers mois de l’année, la société de gestion a enregistré une collecte nette de 872 millions de livres, dont 883 millions de livres sur les «mutual funds» et 21 millions de livres sur la partie «investment trusts». A contrario, les mandats ségrégés («segregated mandates») ont subi une décollecte nette de 32 millions de livres au cours du premier trimestre. Au 31 mars 2015, l’activité «mutual funds» pèse 30,1 milliards de livres d’actifs sous gestion tandis que les mandats ségrégés représentent 3,75 milliards de livres d’encours. L’activité «investment trust» affiche 879 millions de livres d’actifs sous gestion à fin mars 2015.
Le groupe britannique Charles Stanley a annoncé le 15 avril, à l’occasion de la publication de ses résultats annuels, un projet de «modernisation» et de recentrage des activités autour de la gestion de fortune. Le groupe va concentrer ses activités «exclusivement sur la gestion de fortune» et viser une marge opérationnelle de 15% d’ici à 2018. La société va réduire son dividende total de 60%, de 12,25 pence en 2014 à 5 pence cette année, et lever 15,8 millions de livres afin de renforcer ses réserves et préparer le redéploiement des activités. Charles Stanley a réaffirmé être en négociations pour vendre son activité titres et ajouté avoir engagé des discussions pour la cession de Charles Stanley Financial Solutions. Le groupe conserve toutefois son activité D2C, Charles Stanley Direct, et envisage de développer ces capacités numériques dans sa division de banque privée. Il est également question d’introduire un service de conseil automatisé à bas coûts. Les actifs sous gestion et sous administration ont augmenté de 6% durant l’année au 31 mars pour s'établir à 21,3 milliards de livres, les fonds gérés de façon discrétionnaire affichant une progression de 13,4% à 9,3 milliards de livres.
Le groupe luxembourgeois Maitland, spécialisé dans le conseil, l’administration de fonds et les services fiduciaires, a annoncé le 15 avril l’acquisition de l’administrateur de fonds britannique Phoenix Fund Services. Les actifs sous administration de Maitland vont ainsi s’accroître de plus de 6 milliards de livres pour dépasser les 135 milliards de livres. Cette opération marque aussi l’entrée de Maitland sur le marché des services d’administration de fonds au Royaume-Uni, où il a déjà développé ses activités auprès de la clientèle privée et des entreprises.
Old Mutual Global Investors (OMGI) a recruté David Cameron-Mowat en qualité d’analyste actions britanniques. La nouvelle recrue, qui a pris ses fonctions le 13 avril, sera rattachée à Dan Nickols gérant du fonds Old Mutual UK Smaller Companies. Dans le cadre de ce poste, il sera responsable de la recherche et des vues d’investissements sur le marché des actions britanniques moyennes et petites capitalisations. Le fonds de pension public malaisien Employees Provident Fund (EPF) a annoncé, le 14 avril, la signature d’un accord avec British Land en vue de lui céder le bien immobilier One Sheldon Square, situé à Londres. Le montant de l’opération atteint 210 millions de livres. Il s’agit de la première cession immobilière réalisée par EPF au Royaume-Uni. Le fonds de pension dispose encore d’un important portefeuille immobilier au Royaume-Uni et dans d’autres marchés clés comme l’Allemagne, la France, l’Australie et le Japon. «EPF continue de diversifier ses investissements en termes de marchés, de secteurs et de classes d’actifs afin de fournir des rendements à long terme optimaux et durables», indique l’institution dans un communiqué.

The capital agreement is expected to include an exclusive partnership between the postal group and the Italian asset management firm for distribution of custom products under the Poste Italiane brand over the network of 13,000 branches of the post, according to the financial newspaper Il Sole – 24 Ore.Anima is the lucky winner among many suitors. In recent days, rumours had been circulating about Poste Italiane’s choice of partner. Management commissions in the quarter rose 10% year on year to USD2.1bn. Net profits for the division, however, fell to USD651m from USD729m in first quarter 2014, due to adjustments to earnings on interest and a decline in revenues on transactions. The Bank of America group, which has now resolved a large part of its legal proceedings arising from the financial crisis, returned to profitability in first quarter, due largely to commissions earned on financial advising activities and cost controlling. The group earned a quarterly net profit of USD3.4bn, though it had finished first quarter 2014 with a net loss of USD276m. Earnings fell 6%, to USD21.42bn.

Assets under administration in private equity funds and real estate funds rose 23.7% year on year, to a total of USD1.580trn. This would represent less than half of the total growth expressed in US dollars, to the exent that participants in the survey note that 60% to 70% of assets in these funds are administrated internally.

The new ETF, entitled SPDR Morningstar Multi Asset Global Infrastructure Ucits ETF, was launched in the wake of a study which found that investors had a growing appetite for infrastructure. 35% of financial intermediaries and 33% of institutional invetstors say they are planning to increase their investment in infrastructure in the second half of 2015. The fund, listed on the Xetra platform from Deutsche Börse, replicates the Morningstar Global Multi-Asset Infrastructure Index, and allows investors access to all infrastructure investments available on the stock market, with a single transaction, SSGA says in a statement. The benchmark index, which provides a double exposure to infrastructure equity and bond markets, covers 18 segments of the industry.

Retail open-ended funds had a record month, the best since January 2007, with net subscriptions of EUR9.4bn. As in January, diversified funds were the favourites of investors, with net inflows totalling EUR4.2bn in January, while equity funds finished February with net inflows of EUR3.7bn, much of which went to equity ETFs of the Dax or Euro Stoxx, for the best month since July 2011. Funds reserved for institutional investors (Spezialfonds) took in EUR13.4bn in net subscriptions, while assets under management outside investment funds saw net redemptions of EUR2.4bn. As of the end of February 2015, assets under management in the sector totalled EUR2.600trn, compared with EUR2.400trn as of the end of December 2014.
Vanguard Asset Management has appointed Robyn Laidlaw as Head of Institutional for Europe. According to her LinkedIn profile, Laidlaw will be based in London from June 2015. The appointment is still pending the approval of the Financial Conduct Authority, the British market regulator. She replaces Simon Vanstone, who died in September 2014.Laidlaw had previously worked for Vanguard in Australia since 2011, as Head of Product and Marketing. Before that, also at Vanguard Australia, she served successively in the positions of institutional sales manager and ETF product manager, according to her LinkedIn profile.
Van Eck Global Investments, the Irish Management Company of the Market Vectors Ucits ETFs, announced the listing of its first exchange-traded funds (ETFs) in Europe. Market Vectors Gold Miners Ucits ETF (GDX) and Market Vectors Junior Gold Miners Ucits ETF (GDXJ) provide access to the global gold mining equity market. Both ETFs are listed on London Stock Exchange and invest in gold mining stocks and mirror the strategy of their successful U.S.-listed counterparts. In addition to the listing on the London Stock Exchange and the registration for public distribution in the United Kingdom, the ETFs are registered for public distribution in Finland, Germany, Ireland, Norway, Sweden, the Netherlands, and Spain. The asset management firm plans to take advantage of the context of low growth and “financial repression” which has been driving investors to seek new sources of returns, not least from corporate dividends. Neuflize Monde Dividendes has a minimal exposure to equities of 60%. It aims to invest in a selecftion of equities listed on a universe of international equities from OECD countries (Europe, North America, Japan, Australia), including OECD member emerging countries (Mexico, Turkey, eastern Europe, South Korea, etc.) The geographical and sectoral allocation of the fund is discretionary and depends on the anticipations and convictions of mangement. Selection is focused on equities which offer high, stable or growing dividends. The selection process is composed of two stages: the fisrt aims to identify equities which distribute recurrent dividends which rise over the long term, through the implementation of a systematic quantitative screening of a very broad universe of nearly 3,000 stocks. The second step is to check the quantitative screening with a qualitative analysis which is based on a more in-depth financial study of the shares.

Ho Ching, la directrice générale de Temasek Holdings, prend un congé sabbatique de trois mois, a annoncé la société d’investissement de l’Etat de Singapour. Agée de 62 ans, Ho Ching est la femme du premier ministre de Singapour Lee Hsien Long et elle gère la société depuis 2004, rapporte The Wall Street Journal. Elle continuera à assurer ses fonctions au sein du conseil d’administration pendant son congé, a précisé Temasek, sans toutefois donner la date de début du congé, ni sa raison. La société d’investissement gère un portefeuille de 223 milliards de dollars de Singapour (164 milliards de dollars).
Le millésime 2014 s’est révélé plutôt favorable à l'épargne salariale en France, dont les encours ont progressé de 5% sur un an pour atteindre 109,9 milliards d’euros à fin décembre, selon l’Association française de gestion financière (AFG). Près de 11 millions de porteurs, travaillant dans 290.000 entreprises, en sont bénéficiaires, un nombre à peu près stable. Amundi reste de loin le leader du marché, avec 44,7 milliards d’euros, près du double de Natixis (23,2 milliards) et quatre fois plus que BNP Paribas IP (10,5 milliards), ses deux poursuivants.
BlackRock a annoncé une collecte nette de 68,7 milliards de dollars au premier trimestre 2015, dont plus de la moitié (35,5 milliards) a été réalisée sur des produits indiciels cotés (ETF). Ses encours sous gestion atteignaient 4.800 milliards de dollars à fin mars, contre 4.400 milliards un an plus tôt. Sur le trimestre, le numéro un mondial de la gestion a réalisé un bénéfice net de 822 millions de dollars, soit 4,84 dollars par actions, contre 756 millions ou 4,40 dollars par action au premier trimestre 2014.
La France a émis jeudi 7,994 milliards d’euros d’obligations assimilables du Trésor (OAT) à moyen terme, dont 3,446 milliards d’euros d’OAT à cinq ans à un taux moyen pondéré négatif (-0,03%) pour la première fois lors d’une adjudication. Lors de l’adjudication d’OAT de moyen terme de mars, le taux moyen pondéré de la même OAT de référence à 5 ans, la 0,0% mai 2020, était ressorti à 0,04%. L’Agence France Trésor a également adjugé 3,008 milliards d’euros de l’OAT de référence à deux ans, la 0,0% février 2018, à un taux moyen au plus bas record de -0,16%. La France rejoint ainsi l’Allemagne, référence de la zone euro, l’Autriche, les Pays-Bas et la Finlande qui ont adjugé de la dette à cinq ans à taux négatif.
Le président de l’autorité de régulation financière chinoise a exhorté les investisseurs à rester «rationnels et calmes» au vu du bond enregistré depuis quelques mois par la Bourse de Shanghaï, invitant en particulier les novices à bien mesurer les risques et à faire preuve de prudence. Alors que la croissance de l'économie chinoise est au plus bas depuis six ans, la Bourse de Shanghaï affiche une progression de près de 29% depuis le début de l’année et de quelque 70% depuis novembre. La Bourse de Hong Kong, qui évolue à un pic de sept ans, est en hausse de 17% depuis le début de l’année. Les autorités craignent un brusque retrait de ces liquidités si jamais les investisseurs en venaient à la conclusion que la hausse des places boursières a été trop rapide par rapport à la croissance économique.
