Plus de 40% des organisations caritatives britanniques se disent préoccupées par l'évolution de leurs performances au cours des douze prochains mois, ce qui les incite à se concentrer sur les problématiques de risque dans la gestion de leur portefeuille, selon une étude réalisée par Heartwood Investment Management auprès d’institutions affichant en moyenne 28 millions de livres d’actifs investissables. Deux tiers de ces organisations (62%) indiquent d’ailleurs que le risque est la composante la plus pertinente lorsqu’il s’agit de gérer un portefeuille d’investissement, tandis que 31% évoquent le rendement. Du côté des objectifs de performance, plus des deux tiers des organisations visent l’inflation en plus du rendement pour leurs investissements, 38% évoquant une combinaison de plusieurs indices de marché. Les trois quarts d’entre elles utilisent un indice de référence basé sur les marchés pour étalonner la performance de leurs investissements, alors que 44% d’entre elles indiquent utiliser un indice non contraint. Malgré les incertitudes économiques, plus de 80% des organisations indiquent qu’elles restent investies en actions, 56% d’entre elles s’exposant ensuite à l’obligataire et à l’immobilier.
Après une année 2014 décevante et une performance de 0,07 % en janvier, le mois de février s’est montré plus dynamique pour l’industrie des hedge funds. Selon les dernières données publiées par Preqin pour février, la performance moyenne des fonds s’est établie à 2,49 %. Si toutes les stratégies alternatives ont affiché des performances positives au mois de février, c’est la stratégie Equity qui a dominé le classement avec +3,28 %.Les fonds CTA ont réalisé au titre du mois écoulé une performance de 0,20 %, alors que les fonds Ucits ont vécu un bon mois (+2,21 %).Selon Preqin, les hedge funds activistes ont également bien performé avec un gain de 3,22 % sur le mois. Une semaine après l’annonce de la nomination de Tidjane Thiam à la tête de Credit Suisse, les spéculations vont bon train à propos de la stratégie su groupe bancaire à venir et la place de différentes unités, notamment la banque d’affaires. Selon Le Temps, Andreas Venditti, analyste chez Vontobel, y anticipe «certains changements et une transformation plus forte» de l’unité. Dans ce processus de transformation, l’attitude des fonds d’investissement qatari et saoudien – le Qatar Investment Authority et Olayan, qui détiennent près de 12% des actions de Credit Suisse – sera décisive. «Le fonds souverain du Qatar a, jusqu’ici, toujours montré son attachement à la banque d’affaires», rappelle l’analyste. Gérant du fonds Jupiter Financial Opportunities à Londres, Guy de Blonay souligne dans le Temps que le fonds qatari soutiendrait certainement un positionnement plus axé vers la gestion de fortune. Il s’attend à ce qu’une «partie du capital de la banque d’affaires soit réallouée à la banque privée en Asie».
La société de gestion britannique Schroders, qui fête cette année ses 20 ans de présence en Italie, a dépassé les 18 milliards d’euros d’encours dans la Péninsule, rapporte Bluerating. Fin 2013, la structure y gérait 13,5 milliards d’euros. Pour la seule gestion d’actifs, Schroders Italia a enregistré en 2014 une croissance de 36 % et des souscriptions nettes de 3,86 milliards d’euros. « 2014 a été une année record pour le groupe Schroders, avec un encours sous gestion total qui a atteint 386,6 milliards d’euros et un bénéfice par action en hausse de 17 %. Quant à la présence en Italie, nous sommes particulièrement fiers d’avoir franchi la barre symbolique des 20 ans avec la meilleure collecte nette dans la gestion d’actifs jamais enregistrée par l’équipe italienne », a déclaré Massimo Tosato, executive vice chairman de Schroders, qui était à Milan pour la soirée des 20 ans. Il a ajouté : « l’an dernier, l’Italie s’est aussi illustrée comme le pays le plus rentable en Europe continentale ».
Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena renforce son réseau de banquiers privés avec deux arrivées pour la région Sud, rapporte Bluerating. Il s’agit d’Anna Magnani et d’Antonio Martello, qui viennent de Banca Popolare di Bari et seront basés à Naples. Le réseau banque privée du Sud, dirigé par Luigi Rubino, compte 10 centres de banque privée et un centre « private top » et comprend 65 banquiers privés et cinq spécialistes du conseil.
Allianz Global Investors a annoncé la nomination d’Arnaud Lerond en qualité de gérant principal du fonds ABS Cofonds & Dynamic Fixed Income à compter du 15 mars. Il remplace dans cette fonction Christian Tropp qui reste dans l'équipe et prend la fonction de deputy fund manager.
Allianz Global Investors GmbH a changé de gérant pour ses fonds ABS-Cofonds et Dynamic Fixed Income. Depuis le 15 mars, c’est Arnaud Lerond qui a été désigné gérant principal pour ces deux produits. Il remplace Christian Tropp, qui demeure au sein de l'équipe de gestion en tant que gérant adjoint, selon Fondsweb.
Assenagon Asset Management va ouvrir un nouveau bureau à Francfort. La société de gestion allemande y basera son équipe de gestion de portefeuille multi classe d’actifs, créée au mois de février. L’activité y sera pilotée et dirigée par Thomas Romig et Thomas Handte, deux anciens d’Union Investment. Le nouveau bureau ouvrira en avril. Il s’agira du quatrième bureau du gestionnaire, après ceux de Munich, Luxembourg et Zurich, précise un communiqué. Fondée en 2007, Assenagon Asset Management gère aujourd’hui plus de 14 milliards d’euros. Avec l’ouverture du bureau de Francfort, ses équipes totaliseront 70 personnes déstinées à une clientèle d’institutionnels et de family offices.
Celui que la presse surnomme Mister Dax, Dirk Müller, connu pour être le plus célèbre courtier en actions d’Allemagne, lance un fonds actions en collaboration avec M.M. Warburg et Focam Ag, rapporte Investment Europe. Son fonds investira dans des actions européennes et américaines selon une approche value. M.M. Warburg Invest sera en charge de la gestion à proprement parler. Elle devrait selon Investment Europe s’inspirer des méthodes de Warren Buffet et Benjamin Graham pour l’analyse des valeurs. Accessible à partir de 500 euros, le fonds s’adresse en priorité au marché retail allemand.
Le plus gros fonds de Brevan Howard Asset Management a progressé cette année de 3,6% après avoir subi sa première perte en 2014, selon une personne proche de la société, rapporte l’agence Bloomberg. Le Brevan Howard Master Fund, qui joue sur les tendances macro-économiques, a progressé sur la période courant du début de l’année jusqu’au 6 mars malgré un recul de 0,6% le mois dernier. Les hedge funds macro ont progressé en moyenne de 2,8% sur les deux premiers mois de l’année, selon les données de Hedge Fund Research. Le Master Fund, dont les actifs sous gestion constituent la plus grande partie de l’encours total de Brevan Howard, soit quelque 27 milliards de dollars, a pour la première fois en 2014, enregistré un recul de 0,8%, après des gains de 12% en 2011, 3,9% en 2012 et 2,7% en 2013.
Newton Investment Management (Newton IM), filiale du groupe BNY Mellon, a annoncé la nomination de Henrietta Jowitt et Susan Noble en qualité d’administratrices indépendantes non-exécutives au sein de son conseil d’administration. Les deux intéressées sont les premières administratrices indépendantes nommées par la société de gestion. Elles rejoignent un conseil d’administration composé de sept administrateurs exécutifs et de deux administrateurs de BNY Mellon. Susan Noble, qui compte plus de 20 ans d’expérience dans le secteur de la gestion, a occupé des fonctions clés chez Robert Fleming Asset Management et Goldman Sachs Asset Management. Elle est actuellement administratrice non-exécutive de British Empire Securities and General Trust et d’Alliance Trust.Pour sa part, Henrietta Jowitt a occupé plusieurs postes de responsable marketing senior dans l’industrie des services financiers, ayant notamment travaillé chez Advent International Corporation et Schroders. Plus récemment, elle a fondé Rotation Point Limited, une société de conseil en stratégie. Ces deux nominations interviennent après celle de James Wylie au conseil d’administration de Newton en qualité de responsable de l’Amérique du Nord en mai 2014.
BlackRock participe aussi à la guerre des prix dans le monde des ETF. Selon le Financial Times, le gestionnaire américain a décidé de passer de 0,4 % par an à 0,07 % les frais de gestion du iShares FTSE 100 Ucits ETF. Il s’agit du premier ETF à avoir été coté sur le London Stock Exchange il y a 15 ans, selon le quotidien économique britannique.
Le président du fonds de pension japonais GPIF (Government Pension Investment Fund), Takahiro Mitani a consenti à rester à la tête de l’institution alors qu’il envisageait initialement de partir à la fin du mois de mars, rapporte Bloomberg. L’intéressé, âgé de 66 ans, a en effet accepté la proposition du ministre japonais de la santé et du travail, Yasuhisa Shiozaki, de rester aux commandes du fonds de pension japonais jusqu’à la nomination d’un successeur permanent, alors même que son mandat de 5 ans s’achève dans quelques semaines. «Il sera irresponsable pour moi de partir maintenant alors qu’aucun successeur n’a encore été trouvé, a déclaré Takahiro Mitano à l’agence de presse. J’espère qu’ils trouveront quelqu’un très bientôt afin que je puisse partir. J’ai occupé cette fonction pendant 5 ans et c’est un poste à forte pression. Je pense qu’il est préférable d’avoir quelqu’un de plus jeune pour prendre la relève.»

Two thirds of these organizations (62%) also say that risk is the most important element to consider when managing an investment portfolio, while 31% cite returns. In terms of performance objectives, two thirds of charities aim for inflation plus a return on their investment, while 38% cite a combination of several market indicators. Three quarters use a benchmark index based on the markets to calibrate the performance of their investments, while 44% say they use a non-constraining benchmark. Despite economic uncertainty, more than 80% of charities say they remain invested in equities, while 56% are also exposed to bonds and real estate.

The fund, which is the result of a repositining of the old Target Intermediate Term Bond Portfolio, is advised by Prudential Fixed Income, one of the largest US bond asset management firms, with assets of USD543bn as of the end of December 2014. The asset management team, which has an average of more than 21 years experience, includes Michael Collins, managing director and senior head of investment, Gregory Peters, managing director and senior head of investment, and Richard Piccirillo, partner and senior portfolio manager.

In fact, its flagship product Bestifond has earned 18.78% since the beginning of the year, while its Bestinver International fund has earned returns of 19.53% since 1 January 2015. “Our commitment is to earn the best long-term returns,” Beltran de la Lastra, the new chief investment officer at Bestinver, tells Cinco Dias. “With our ‘investing value’ management, we seek out the best returns for investors in our funds.” The Spanish website notes that the departure of Paramés in September 2014 had a negative effect on the asset management firm, in the form of a net outflow of more than EUR2.5bn. Since then, the pace of the outflows has slowed considerably, with only EUR4.2m in net redemptions in February, while March may be the first month in which Bestinver has begun to earn positive net subscriptions. “The evolution of flows is totally positive, and we can say that it has stabilized,” de la Lastra says. “What is important now is to start getting through to investors with our value proposal again.”

Nearly 40% of assts in these funds are invested in short-term products, with total leverage of -1x to -3x. A 57% portion is invested in long-term products, with total leverage ranging from +2x to +3x. The leverage with most assets is 2, for a total of 38% of assets under management. In the short-term and leveraged ETP sector, equity ETPs are most popular, with 69% of assets under management, followed by bond ETPs (13%) and commodities, with 10%. Assets under management in short and leveraged equity ETPs (including size and style but excluding sectors as objectives) specialised in Europe totalled USD6bn, of which USD2.5bn track the European region, and USD3.5bn track specific European countries.

He will be based in San Francisco, California, and will be responsible for directing the activity serving US intermediaries, including family offices, broker-dealers, and clients of the private bank. He will report to Frank Wheeler, global head of distribution and marketing at Matthews Asia. Chow previously spent three years in the position of senior vice president and head of development at Voya Investment Management (formerly ING Investment Management in the United States). Before that, he was head of retail distribution for the United States at FAF Advisors / First American Funds. Matthews Asia, a specialist in investment in Asian markets, has USD27.8bn in assets under management as of 31 January 2015.

As of the end of 2013, the structure had EUR13.5bn in assets. In asset management alone, Schroders Italia posted growth of 36% in 2014, with net subscriptions of EUR3.86bn. “2014 was a record year for the Schroders group, with total assets under management of EUR386.6bn, and profits per share up 17%. As to our presence in Italy, we are particuarly pleased to have reached the symbolic 20-year point with the best inflows in asset management ever recorded by an Italian team,” says Massimo Tosato, executive vice chairman at Schroders, who was in Milan for a 20-year birthday celebration. He adds that “last year, Italy also stood out as the most profitable country in continental Europe.”

Net inflows to funds represented over CHF8bn, the Swiss Funds & Asset Management Association (SFAMA) announced on 18 March. The good performance of the equity markets also contributed to growth in assets. All categories of funds posted inflows, including bond funds, but this situation may develop, in light of historically low interest rates, which will scarcely satisfy the returns required by many institutional investors. Funds specialised in equities have posted the strongest inflows (CHF4.31bn), followed by bond funds (CHF3.14bn) and strategic funds (CHF1.23bn). The rankings of banks for sales change in no respect whatsoever: UBS, with a market share of 25.7%, leads Credit Suisse (14.7%), Pictet (5.8%), Swisscanto (5%), BlackRock (4.6%), ZKB (4.5%), Swiss & Global Asset Management (3.1%), Lombard Odier (2.3%), Vontobel (1.5%) and JPMorgan (1.4%).

The German asset management firm will be basing its multi-asset class portfolio management team, created in February, there. The team will be led and directed by Thomas Romig and Thomas Handte, formerly of Union Investment. The new office will open in April. It will be the fourth-largest office of the asset management firm, after the ones in Munich, Luxembourg and Zurich, a statement says. Assenagon Asset Management, founded in 2007, now has over EUR14bn in assets under management. With the opening of the Frankfurt office, its teams will have a total of 70 people serving institutional and family office clients.
Le recours à l’emprunt des collectivités locales françaises devrait rester stable cette année autour de 18 milliards d’euros du fait notamment d’une baisse de leurs investissements qui compenserait la diminution programmée des dotations de l’Etat, estime Standard & Poor’s. Dans une étude publiée mercredi, l’agence de notation anticipe ensuite une hausse à 20 milliards d’euros pour 2016 qui proviendrait pour l’essentiel du bloc communal (municipalités et intercommunalités). Avec des tombées annuelles d’emprunts qui devraient rester relativement stables autour de 13 à 14 milliards d’euros sur la période, l’encours de dettes des collectivités continuerait sa progression graduelle pour s’inscrire à 152-153 milliards en 2016. Il représenterait alors 78% de leurs recettes de fonctionnement, contre 73% fin 2014, un niveau qui, par comparaison internationale, «resterait modéré», indique S&P.
Les encours de CPR Asset Management ont augmenté de 12% en 2013 par rapport à 2014, à plus de 28 milliards d’euros, un plus haut historique selon le gérant. La collecte nette s’élève à 2 milliards d’euros sur l’année. Les classes d’actifs moyen long terme ont collecté plus de 3 milliards d’euros (1,7 milliard sur les actions, 900 millions sur les taux et 400 millions sur les diversifiés) tandis que la gestion monétaire a essuyé une décollecte de 1 milliard.
La banque centrale du Danemark, qui a abaissé récemment ses taux en territoire négatif après les mesures prises par la banque nationale suisse et la BCE, a décidé d’augmenter le montant que les banques du pays sont autorisées à détenir dans leurs comptes courants de 37 milliards à 145 milliards de couronnes danoises. Les dépôts ont ainsi atteint 356 milliards de couronnes en début de mois, alors qu’ils n’étaient que de 100 milliards il y a un an, a indiqué l’autorité dont l’objectif est de maintenir le peg avec l’euro.
Selon la Banque des réglements internationaux, 2.400 milliards de dollars de titres de dette souveraine se négociaient à des rendements négatifs fin février.
