The strategy, which has been available in the United States since 2003, attracted more interest in 2014, when it grew from USD50m in assets under management to over USD130m, Guinness AM reveals in a statement. The strategy has outperformed all other funds funds of the Lipper “Global Large Cap Growth” category listed in the United States since the beginning of the year, as well as over one year, three years, five years and ten years. In its UCITS version, the fund will be managed by Ian Mortimer and Matthew Page, the current managers of the US version of the strategy. “This is not a tech fund,” says Page. “Often, when the term ‘innovators’ is used in the name of a fund, investors think it is a case in which we try to invest in highly innovative startups. In reality, we think that innovation includes a much wider spectrum, and that it can be found in most industrial sectors. We define innovative companies as those which are disruptive, in phases of accelerated growth or progress, and we have a wide range of sectors and capitalisations in our portfolio. It is important to emphasize, however, that we only invest in companies whose market capitalisation is over USD500m. With that said, we feel that innovative companies can outperform their counterparts over the long term, but we are not prepared to pay any price to have these companies,” Page explains. The investment period for the strategy is open from 20 October until 31 October. Daily listing will begin on 3 November. The first invegtors may acquire share classes at cut prices, with management fees of 0.25% up to the first GBP50m in assets.

France’s EDF Group and Amundi today announced their partnership for the creation of a joint asset management company. The prime purpose of this company will be to raise funds from institutional and retail investors and to manage on behalf of third parties funds intended to finance projects relating to energy transition. EDF will contribute to this project its privileged access to investment opportunities within the energy sector thanks to its world-renowned expertise in the field. The Group will be a driving force behind investment for project development, implementation and operation. Amundi will provide its investment structuration skills as well as its fund-raising capabilities. EDF and Amundi intend to offer the market two theme-based specific investment products. The first will be dedicated to renewable energy (wind power, photovoltaic, small hydro, etc.). The second will focus on energy saving strategies for B-to-B (including electro intensive industries). EDF and Amundi have set the fund-raising goal at 1.5 billion euros. «This partnership between an asset manager and an industrial company seeks to develop a new alternative asset class, decorrelated from the volatility of traditional investment markets, in order in particular to draw long term investments for the benefit of the real economy,» according to a press statement. The Global State Street Investor Confidence Index decreased to 115.1 in October, down 8.8 points from September’s revised reading of 123.9. Investors in Europe showed lower risk appetite, with the European ICI falling 24.3 points to 115.5. In North America, by contrast, the ICI rose 5.9 points to 108.5. The Asian ICI rose by 2.1 points to 99.5. “European investor confidence had crested in September at an all-time high, so it is perhaps not surprising to see it come down somewhat this month,” commented Kenneth Froot, who created the index. “The decline may be driven by deflationary fears in the region. Although the ECB has engaged in covered-bond purchases, German opposition to full-blown Quantitative Easing may have left investors wondering whether or not the European Central Bank can do enough to combat headwinds to growth.”
