Le géant américain BNY Mellon a annoncé lundi le rachat de son compatriote Cutwater Asset Management, un spécialiste de la gestion taux basé à Armonk, dans l’Etat de New York. Filiale à 100% du rehausseur de crédit MBIA, Cutwater affiche 23 milliards de dollars sous gestion. La société viendra renforcer aux Etats-Unis l’offre obligataire d’Insight Investment, filiale de BNY Mellon.

Le Fonds monétaire international a examiné et approuvé le 1er octobre des propositions pour réformer la documentation juridique des emprunts obligataires souverains et éviter que des pays comme l’Argentine ne se trouvent soumis à la pression de hedge funds, selon un communiqué publié lundi. Le FMI propose de modifier la clause pari passu dans les émissions internationales, qui force aujourd’hui un Etat à rembourser tout ses créanciers de la même manière. Il préconise aussi l’inclusion de clauses d’action collective (CAC) plus agressives, qui permettraient d’imposer une restructuration aux créanciers dès lors que 75% d’entre eux sont d’accord, en agrégeant les porteurs de différentes lignes de dette. Ces recommandations font suite à une consultation engagée en mai 2013 par le FMI.

It will be the first time that the US giant offers this type of product in Europe, though a product range of this type already exists in the United States. For this new range, iShares has selected MSCI as an index provider.

The first of these, Deka-Basis Strategie Flexibel (DE000DK2EAR4), is a diversified fund which may invest in all asset classes worldwide, using various financial instrucments (derivatives, ETFs, etc.) The second, Deka-Basis Strategie Aktien (DE000DK2EAG7), invests in equities in developed markets on the basis of fundamental analysis of corporate data, which also takes into account the quality of management and corporate outlooks according to the situation in the cycle. Management commissions totalo 1.25% per year for both funds.

Fund flows signaling ‘risk-off’ going into the final months of 2014 as the end of QE3 looms Investors who began 2014 looking out at what they believed to be the sunlit uplands of accelerating global growth are, going into the final three months of the year, wondering if they’d been looking at a mirage. Most of the uplands they had pinned their hopes on, ranging from Europe’s modest recovery to Japan’s aggressive efforts to reflate its economy, are swathed in clouds and another cold front – the end of the US Federal Reserve’s current quantitative easing program (QE3) – is bearing down.

The average returns on assets under management for platforms has fallen to an all-time low of 34 basis points, compared with more than 50 basis points in 2010, and 80 basis points in 2006. Costs for the platform sector overall increased last year by about GBP60m, and only two platforms out of the top 20 succeeded in reducing their costs. Platforms were meant to be the big winners out of RDR legislation. The statistics suggest that the victory is not yet won. According to Altus Consulting, the trend is not expected to change fundamentally in 2015. Several platforms are investing in new technologies as the price war continues.

Simensen, a Norwegian citizen, spent 30 years at McKinsey, where he served in a variety of management positions.

He replaces Ivan Martin Aranguez, who left at the end of September to start up a personal project (see Newsmanagers of 25 September 2014). Montero de Espinosa has worked at Santander AM for 15 years. Previously, he managed the Santander Acciones Euro (Santander Euro Equity), Santander AM Euro Equity and Santander Mixto Europa funds.

He will be replaced by Fabio Ricceli, who had previously been manager of the Fidelity European Dynamic Growth fund. This represents the third departure of an emblematic manager from the Spanish market in a few weeks, after those of Francisco Garcia Paramés, who left Bestinver, and Ivan Martin Aranguez, who recently left Santander Asset Management.

While continuing to serve as CEO for the Asia-Pacific region, Laskowitz will now co-manage a new global solutions division from New York, which has about USD150bn in assets under management in multi-asset class portfolios, with teams in the United States, the United Kingdom and Hong Kong. He will be assisted by Michael O’Brien, who has also been appointed to the global solutions division. Laskowitz will therefore have offices in New York and Hong Kong. “Jed is used to working between Asia, London and New York,” a spokesperson tells Asian Investor. JP Morgan AM meanwhile announces the appointment of Michael Falcon as head of the mutual fund activity for Asia. Falcon, currently based in New York, will be based in Hong Kong from January 2015. He will take over the duties of Laskowitz, to whom he will report directly.

Their mission will be to take charge of the marketing and distribution team for France and internationally. Surjon and Cazenave have been with Axiom AI since its inception, and have contributed to its commercial growth signiifciantly at the Addax company as a third party marketer. Surjon and Cazenave founded the alternative management firm Addax AM, based in Paris and Chicago, in 2004 with Jean-Jacques Joulié and Jennifer Bahnick, and served as partner and CEO and partner responsible for development. The two previously worked together at the SG BAREP group from 1995 to 1999, before founding AIP/AIM with their historic partners, and then joining Crédit Agricole AM in 2000 when they sold it their firm.

The US asset management firm Neuberger Berman, which has USD257bn in assets under management as of the end of June, has announced that it has signed an agreement with Ramius LLC, an affiliate of Cowen Group, to acquire its stake in the capital of Orchard Square Partners, a firm which manages a global long/short credit strategy. The operation, for an undisclosed sum, is expected to be completed on 31 December 2014.Orchard Square Partners has about USD475m in assets under management for insurance companies, institutions, family offices, high net worth individuals, foundations and endowments from North America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

Popescu, who has worked in commercial development at East Capital and Skandia Investment Group, will be responsible for French-speaking clients at the British asset management boutique. The firm has assets under management of GBP14.7bn in British, US, European, Asia ex Japan, Japan, global and emerging market equities, according to its website. It has offices in London, Singapore, New York and Boston. Popescu most recently served at Hilbert Investment Solutions. That firm, a speicalist in the design and distribution of investment solutions based on structured products, is reportedly in the advanced stages of talks with a European institutional investor to create a strategic partnership with a view to acquiring a more industrial dimension.

Julius Baer va supprimer 150 emplois supplémentaires suite à l’acquisition de l’activité internationale de gestion de fortune de Merrill Lynch en 2012, rapporte Financial Times fund management. 30 à 40 % des 2.200 emplois de l’activité wealth de Merrill Lynch devaient être supprimés après l’opération. La plupart des ces coupes ont été faites, mais 150 personnes supplémentaires sur 5.500 devront quitter l’entreprise d’ici à 2015, selon Boris Collardi, le directeur général.

La société de gestion américaine Direxion Investments vient de recruter quatre personnes dans son équipe de distribution, qui compte désormais sept directeurs régionaux externes et quatre stratégistes institutionnels sur un total de 19 personnes.Ainsi, Brendan Cavanaugh, un ancien de Goldman Sachs, a été nommé vice president, capital markets institutional strategist, à New York. Le hedge fund de William «Bill» Ackman, Pershing Square, a dégagé une performance de 31,5% sur les neuf premiers mois de l’année, a indiqué à Reuters un investisseur dans le fonds.Dans une note d’actualisation adressée à ses clients, Pershing Square Capital Management indique que le rendement brut jusqu'à fin septembre ressort à 40,8%, ce qui donne un gain après commissions de 31,5%.

Bogdan Popescu doit rejoindre JO Hambro Capital Management, a appris Newsmanagers de plusieurs sources concordantes. L’intéressé, qui s’est notamment occupé de développement commercial chez East Capital et Skandia Investment Group, devrait s’occuper de la clientèle francophone de cette boutique de gestion britannique. Cette dernière gère un encours de 14,7 milliards de livres portant sur les actions britanniques, américaines, européennes, Asie hors Japon, Japon, monde et marchés émergents, selon son site Internet. Elle a des bureaux à Londres, Singapour, New York et Boston.Dernièrement, Bogdan Popescu travaillait au sein de Hilbert Investment Solutions. Cette structure, spécialisée dans la conception et la distribution de solutions d’investissement basées sur les produits structurés, serait en contact avancé avec un institutionnel européen pour un partenariat stratégique lui permettant d’acquérir une dimension plus industrielle.

BNP Paribas Securities Services annonce ce lundi avoir été sélectionné par Antin Infrastructure Partners (Antin IP) pour agir en qualité de dépositaire du fonds Antin Infrastructure Partners II. BNP Paribas était déjà dépositaire du premier fonds Antin Infrastructure Partners, précise un communiqué. Antin IP est une société de gestion indépendante spécialisée dans les investissements en infrastructure dans les secteurs de l'énergie, de l’environnement, des transports et des télécommunications. Elle compte près de 3 milliards d’euros d’actifs sous gestion, et rassemble une équipe d’investissement de plus de 30 professionnels. Le fonds Antin Infrastructure Partners II, un véhicule de 2 milliard d’euros, a réuni plus de 60 investisseurs institutionnels internationaux situés en Europe, Amérique du Nord, Asie et en Australie (fonds de pension, assureurs, gestionnaires d’actifs, fonds souverains...). Le fonds suivra la même stratégie d’investissement que le premier fonds d’Antin IP.

Le gestionnaire d’actifs américain Neuberger Berman, qui gère 257 milliards de dollars d’encours à fin juin, a annoncé avoir conclu un accord avec Ramius LLC, filiale de Cowen Group, en vue de lui racheter sa participation au capital d’Orchard Square Partners, une société qui gère une stratégie «global long/short credit». L’opération, dont le montant n’a pas été communiqué, devrait être finalisée le 31 décembre 2014.Orchard Square Partners gère environ 475 millions de dollars d’actifs pour le compte de compagnies d’assurance, d’institutions, de family offices, des particuliers très fortunés et des fondations d’Amérique du Nord, d’Europe, d’Asie et du Moyen-Orient.

JP Morgan Asset Management vient d’attribuer des fonctions supplémentaires à son actuel CEO pour l’Asie, Jed Laskowitz. Tout en continuant d’assumer ses fonctions de CEO pour la région Asie-Pacifique, Jed Laskowitz va désormais co-gérer, à partir de New York, une nouvelle division de global solutions qui gère quelque 150 milliards de dollars de portefeuilles multi-classes d’actifs avec des équipes aux Etats-Unis, au Royaume-Uni et à Hong Kong. Il sera épaulé par Michael O’Brien, lui aussi nommé co-responsable de la division global solutions.Jed Laskowitz aura donc des bureaux à New York et Hong Kong. «Jed est habitué à travailler entre l’Asie, Londres et New York», a indiqué un porte-parole à Asian Investor. JP Morgan AM devrait parallèlement annoncer la nomination de Michael Falcon en tant que responsable de l’activité mutual funds en Asie. Michael Falcon, actuellement à New York, sera basé à Hong Kong à compter de janvier 2015. Il reprend ces fonctions à Jed Laskowitz dont il dépend directement.

Société Générale a annoncé le 6 octobre avoir finalisé la vente de ses activités de banque privée, opérées depuis Singapour et Hong Kong, à DBS. Société Générale a ainsi reçu 220 millions de dollars en espèces au titre de la cession du fonds de commerce, générant un impact positif sur le ratio Common Equity Tier 1 Bâle 3 du groupe. Société Générale Private Banking et DBS Private Bank ont par ailleurs conclu des accords de coopération. Les clients de Société Générale auront ainsi accès à l’offre de banque privée de DBS en Asie. Réciproquement, les clients de DBS bénéficieront de l’offre de banque privée de Société Générale en Europe et auront accès à une gamme de solutions de marché proposées par Société Générale Corporate & Investment Banking. Cette transaction permet à Société Générale Private Banking d’accélérer son développement sur ses marchés cœur et de continuer à renforcer les services proposés à ses clients en Europe, en Amérique Latine, au Moyen-Orient et en Afrique. « Cette opération permet à nos clients respectifs de bénéficier pleinement du meilleur de nos deux institutions en Europe et en Asie.
