The objective for the new centre is to develop global monitoring models and processes for risk management, including market, liquidity and credit risks.The bank has already set up a team in Berlin with 50 members, including mathematicians and statisticians. By the end of the year, the centre will have about 300 people. Staff may increase to 500-700 people in the mid- to long-term.
p { margin-bottom: 0.08in; } According to statistics from the Spanish Inverco association of asset management firms, assets managed by foreign providers on the Spanish market as of the end of 2010 totalled EUR48bn, which represents a 49% increase compared with EUR32.2bn as of the end of 2009. According to institutions which provide statistics to Inverco, net subscriptions for last year as a whole totalled over EUR5.2bn. Extrapolating to all foreign asset management firms, these net subscriptions are estimated to have totalled about EUR9.5bn.Three French firms and/or their local affiliates were included in this list: Amundi Iberia has EUR3.855bn in assets, and is second among foreign firms, after JPMorgan Asset Management (EUR5.738bn). In third place is BNP Paribas IP (with Fortis Investments) with EUR3.061bn. In thirteenth place is Axa Investment Managers, with EUR594m.Twelve firms have over EUR1bn in assets, and eight have over EUR2bn. The US management firm says that over USD1bn come from French-speaking countries of Europe, of which 50% is managed on behalf of French investors.Of the USD420m in net subscriptions to the Sicav from French-speaking Europe, USD200m were from French investors.Muzinich & Co is planning to continue its international development in 2011, with the registration of its fund range in the Netherlands and Belgium. The manager is predicting returns of 5% to 10% for its traditional funds, and 2-7% for its short-term funds.

About 37% of 91 hedge fund managers are optimistic about the evolution of the S&P 500, compared with 46% in December, while 26.4% were predicting declines, compared with 18.7% the previous month.Hedge fund managers may be less pessimistic than last month, but 37.9% still say they predict falls for 10-year US Treasuries, compared with 53.5% the previous month.

For the occasion, the US management firm, which says that it has “forged close ties with Rayan Asset Management in Dubai, Jadwa Investment in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and more recently with the Saudi stock market company, Tadawul,” is planning to create a range of regional funds in the next five years, which will have USD5-10bn in assets. Russel is also “planning to increase its assets under management or advising mandate via fiduciary services and investment advising, to USD20bn in the next five years.”

Assets under management at the management firm from Taiwan Life total USD270m. As of 30 November, assets under management by the Mirae Asset Global Investments group totalled over USD52bn.

In the week to 28 January, equities funds dedicated to emerging markets posted their first outflows in five weeks. However, European equities funds, which investors had been avoiding in recent months, attracted more than USD1bn for the first time since June.
p { margin-bottom: 0.08in; } The Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) is launching two retail volatility funds on the British market, the Volatility Controlled Cautious Managed Fund and the Volatility Controlled Balanced Managed Fund, two vehicles which offer the same levels of volatility that would ordinarily be expected for cautious and balanced funds, Fundstrategy reports.RBS says that independent financial advisers refuse to recommend 33% of balanced managed products and 28% of cautious managed products, as they consider the risk too high. But this does not prevent these advisers from investing 44% of their clients’ capital in cautious and diversified funds in second half 2010. A minority (8%) estimate that this percentage may decline in first half 2011.

The product may compete with passive management products.Management fees have been lowered to 0.25% per year, with set costs of 0.15% per year. A performance commission of 10% will be limited to as to prevent the TER for the fund from exceeding 0.55%.A head at JP Morgan AM says that the product is the first, or at any rate one of the very first funds to comply with RDR regulations, in that all advisory commissions have been removed.

The new product aimed at retail clients will integrate the UK Opportunities fund, which is reserved for institutional clients. The fund will include 100 shares, 80% from small firms, while the remainder will be divided between mid- and large caps. The benchmark index will be the Hoare Govett Smaller Companies ex IC. No position will exceed 4% of the portfolio.

SAM, the investment boutique focused on sustainability investing, part of Robeco, has announced the departure of its CIO, Stephanie Feigt and a series of appointments.Effective immediately, the head of portfolio management, Raimer Baumann, and head of research functions, Daniel Wild, will be represented on SAM’s executive committee. Neil Johnson, previously in charge of sales at SAM USA, has been appointed head of global clients & marketing and will also join the executive committee. He takes over the position that was vacant since the appointment of Michael Baldinger as CEO. Index provider Standard & Poor’s has announced the launch in early February of the first index to track and rate the level of transparency and performance for more than 100 companies listed on stock markets of the Middle East in the area of environmental, social and governance (ESG) criteria.The index is the fruit of a collaboration between Hawkamah, the Institute for Corporate Governance and Standard & Poor’s, with the support of the International Finance Corporation (IFC).The index will be unveiled on 1 February (today) in Dubai.
p { margin-bottom: 0.08in; } The Canadian Alberta Investment Management Corporation (AIMCo), which represents 26 pension funds, foundations and governments in the province of Alberta, in partnership with the Australia New Zealand Forest Fund (ANZFF) from New Forests, has acquired about 2,500 square kilometres of forests and agricultural land for AUD415m, from Great Southern Plantations (GSP), a firm which has been under legal administration since May 2009.New Forests is an Australian management firm specialised in investments in forests and other themes related to the environment, such as water, biodiversity and carbon. The ANZFF, its first fund, was created in October, and has AUD500m in assets. The transaction is the largest ever realised by private investors in the area of forestry in Australia.

Le fonds de dotation du Louvre (120 millions d’euros d’actifs), a récemment choisi BNP Paribas Asset Management pour gérer un mandat de 60 millions d’euros sur les obligations investment grade de la zone euro, et a ajouté quatre autres fonds obligataires actifs à la liste. Mercer Investment Consulting à Paris et Amadeis ont conseillé le fonds de dotation du Louvre. PIMCO et Loomis Sayles & Co héritent de 6 millions d’euros chacun sur des fonds d’obligations high yield tandis que Investec et Pictet ont été sélectionnés sur la dette des pays émergents (5 millions d’euros chacun dans des fonds ouverts). La prochaine étape, selon le directeur Thierry Brevet, sera de sélectionner des produits actions actifs sur les marchés émergents, et explique: « Dans les actions des marchés émergents, je pense qu’il y a de l’alpha pour la gestion active. Et ce seront les marchés émergents mondiaux, car nous n’avons pas la taille pour investir au niveau régional.
Selon le bulletin SPDR ETF Outlook de State Street Global Advisors (SSgA), l’encours des ETF aux Etats-Unis a atteint un record de 995 milliards de dollars fin décembre, grâce à des souscriptions nettes qui ont «dépassé 100 milliards de dollars pour la quatrième année consécutive», rapporte un communiqué diffusé le 31 janvier.D’après les calculs de BlackRock, dans la dernière livraison de la publication ETF Landscape, le secteur des ETF aux Etats-Unis comprenait 896 produits de 28 promoteurs pour un encours total de 891 milliards de dollars. Les encours se sont accrus selon cette source de 26,3 % l’an dernier par rapport aux 705,5 milliards de dollars de fin 2009. Les souscriptions nettes auraient porté sur 106,6 milliards de dollars, dont 40,5 milliards captés par Vanguard et 27,5 milliards par iShares.
La société de gestion cotée américaine Waddell & Reed Financial a fait état lundi d’une hausse de 39% sur un an de son bénéfice au quatrième trimestre à 46,4 millions de dollars, précise L’Agefi. Les commissions ont grimpé de 15% pour atteindre 281 millions de dollars.
Bank of America a lié le bonus 2010 de son directeur général à la performance de la banque sur les quatre prochaines années, rapporte le Financial Times. Ainsi, Brian Moynihan recevra 9,1 millions de dollars d’actions restreintes si le bénéfice de la banque reste supérieur à 0,80 % de ses actifs de 2011 à 2015.
Le 28 janvier, Vanguard a lancé le Vanguard Total International Stock ETF (VXUS), qui réplique le MSCI All Country World ex USA Investable Market Index. Le taux de frais sur encours se situera à 0,20 %, soit environ 60 % de moins que le taux de chargement moyen des produits concurrents.En fait, cet ETF est une classe de parts séparée du Vanguard Total International Stock Index Fund qui a été lancé en 1996 et qui est le second plus important fonds indiciel international de Vanguard avec un encours de 51,4 milliards de dollars.Le nouvel ETF couvre environ 98 % des marchés non américains et coiffe plus de 6.000 valeurs de 44 pays.Vanguard précise qu’il a lancé 17 ETF en 2010, année où ses ETF ont enregistré des souscriptions nettes de 35,4 milliards de dollars, soit environ un tiers des montants collectés par ce type de fonds. L’encours de ses ETF totalise environ 148 milliards de dollars, sur un total de 1.600 milliards investis en mutual funds.
A fin décembre, les actifs sous gestion de Muzinich & Co sont parvenus à 10 milliards de dollars, dont plus de 3 milliards pour la sicav irlandaise Muzinich Funds (lire nos articles des 22 novembre et 10 décembre 2010). L’agence de notation de durabilité Inrate a annoncé le 31 janvier avoir rejoint le Sustainability Forum Zurich (TSF), présidé par le directeur de Vontobel Asset Management, Zeno Staub. «Inrate peut désormais aider le TSF à promouvoir la durabilité au sein des marchés financiers», indique l’agence dans un communiqué. TSF est une plateforme de réflexion, basée à Zurich, dont la mission est de promouvoir et de faciliter des modèles commerciaux durables pour les services financiers et des solutions de produits à l’intention des investisseurs. La Banque Postale Asset Management a annoncé le 31 janvier l’arrivée de Rozenn Le Cainec en tant que directeur des gestions diversifiées. A la tête de cette direction récemment créée, Rozenn Le Cainec sera en charge de la charge des portefeuilles diversifiés des clients particuliers et des personnes morales du groupe La Banque Postale.Rozenn Le Cainec travaillait précédemment chez Natixis AM qu’elle avait rejoint en 2002 et où elle était depuis 2007 responsable de la gestion diversifiée benchmarkée.
Pierre Persico vient de rejoindre Barclays Bank PLC en France en qualité de co-gérant, aux côtés de Tony Blanco, de Barclays Patrimoine, réseau de plus de 300 conseillers financiers en France. L’intéressé a notamment été membre du comité de direction générale du Crédit Lyonnais et président du directoire du Crédit Lyonnais Asset Management à partir de l’an 2000. Il avait rejoint AGF en 2004 pour occuper les fonctions de président du directoire de W Finance et de directeur AGF Finance Conseil (2006), puis Allianz France en 2007 en qualité de directeur adjoint unité distribution et membre du comité de direction générale.
Hors ETF, la création de fonds a continué de ralentir en 2010 avec seulement 266 mises sur le marché, indique Europerformance dans son bilan 2010 de la gestion collective. Il s’agit là du plus faible niveau de création de nouveaux fonds depuis 1998. Déjà l’an passé, le nombre de fonds s’était fortement contracté avec 380 lancements. Parallèlement, le nombre de clôtures de fonds a baissé (484 contre 580 l’an passé). On constate donc une diminution nette du nombre de fonds.Constatée depuis 2007, la réduction de l’offre nouvelle de fonds s’observe sur toutes les grandes classes d’actifs. Baisse des encours et de la rentabilité des sociétés de gestion, mais aussi consolidation du secteur de la gestion d’actifs, expliquent la rationalisation des gammes de produits. Les taux bas ne favorisent pas non plus le renouvellement de l’offre, historiquement importante, de fonds garantis. En pleine mutation, le marché favorise davantage des solutions opportunistes telles que le lancement de fonds obligations crédit (en 2009), et le lancement de fonds de gestion flexible (2009 et 2010). Dans ce contexte, seul le compartiment des ETF semble poursuivre sa croissance. Les gammes s’élargissent géographiquement (couverture des pays émergents), mais aussi par l’extension à d’autres classes d’actifs (private equity, matières premières). L’arrivée d’un nouvel acteur (Ossiam, détenu à 51% par Natixis Global Asset Management) devrait permettre au secteur de rester dynamique en 2011. Pour l’heure, la prime à la nouveauté accordée par les investisseurs semble faible. Hormis sur les fonds « crédit » lancés l’an passé, les flux d’investissement positifs enregistrés sur les nouveaux fonds ne révèlent pas de véritable enthousiasme. Plus particulièrement sur les fonds actions de gestion active, il semble qu’un historique de rendements de 2 à 3 ans soit requis avant d’attirer des flux d’investissement significatifs.
Stephen Schwarzman, le patron du fonds d’investissement américain Blackstone, a quitté son quartier général new-yorkais et devait arriver ce mardi 1er février à Paris, où il restera environ six mois, rapporte la Tribune. Il prendra ses quartiers dans les bureaux parisiens de sa société, dans le VIIIe arrondissement.
