Robeco Groep is the asset management unit of the Orix group, and the holding company for Robeco Institutional Asset Management B.V., Boston Partners Global Investors, Inc, Harbor Capital Advisors, Inc, Transtrend B.V., RobecoSAM AG et Canara Robeco Asset Management Company Limited. Orix acquired about 90% of capital in Robeco from Rabobank in 2013, and then subsequently acquired the remaining 10% from the Rabobank group. At the end of 2017, assets under management at Robeco Group, now Orix Corporation Europe, totalled EUR152bn, nearly one third of which was invested in quantitative strategies.

The fund, which will be officially announced by Carlos Ghosn, head of the alliance, at the CES technology convention in Las Vegas on Tuesday, will be 40% financed by Renault, 40% by Nissan, and 20% by Mitsubishi. “This is going to help us move faster on acquisitions than the competition,” a source in the alliance has told Reuters. A spokesperson for the alliance declined to comment. For the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance, the venture capital fund represents an additional step to integrate the three automobile manufacturers, who plan to achieve EUR10bn in synergies each year until 2022. According to sources familiar with the matter, the fund will be registered in the Netherlands, and will be led by François Dossa, former head of the activities of Société générale in Brazil, who later led the Nissan affiliate in Rio de Janeiro.

L’objectif de 10 milliards d’euros de collecte pour les plans d’épargne individuels italiens (PIR) pourrait déjà avoir été dépassé en 2017, rapporte Bluerating, citant Il Sole 24 Ore. Ces produits, introduits il y a un an, ont tout de suite rencontré un fort intérêt de la part des investisseurs. Selon les derniers chiffres officiels, les PIR ont collecté 7,5 milliards d’euros sur les neuf premiers mois de l’année, avec des souscriptions de 2,2 milliards d’euros au troisième trimestre. La collecte se serait accélérée sur les trois derniers mois de l’année. La plateforme d’investissement iM Square, créée fin 2013 par Philippe Couvrecelle et qui est entrée au capital de Polen Capital (20%) et de Dolan McEniry (45%), envisage de nouvelles prises de participations et une introduction en Bourse, rapporte le site spécialisé Investment Europe. «Nous avons fixé l’objectif d’investir 500 millions d’euros dans des boutiques indépendantes avec du financement en equity. Philippe Couvrecelle n’exclut pas une prise de participation minoritaire dans un gestionnaire d’actifs asiatiques si l’occasion se présente. Mais ce n’est pas la priorité de l’heure.

Merrill Lynch a interdit à ses clients et aux conseillers financiers qui travaillent pour eux d’acheter des bitcoins, citant des inquiétudes concernant la pertinence de la cryptomonnaie, rapporte le Wall Street Journal. L’interdiction s’applique à tous les comptes et empêche non seulement les 17.000 conseillers de présenter à leurs clients des investissements liés au bitcoin, mais aussi d’exécuter les ordres des clients passés sur le fonds Grayscale Investment Trust, selon une source proche du dossier. Cette interdiction prolonge une mesure existante, qui bloque l’accès aux contrats à terme récemment lancés sur le bitcoin.
iShares, l’activité ETF de BlackRock, a enregistré en 2017 des souscriptions nettes de 246 milliards de dollars, soit un niveau record, selon un communiqué. L’an dernier, la collecte s’était élevée à 140 milliards de dollars.Ses encours ont ainsi augmenté à 1.754 milliards de dollars, dont 1.330 milliards de dollars en actions et 427 milliards en obligations et matières premières. En Europe, les fonds iShares ont dépassé la barre des 300 milliards de dollars d’encours à 359 milliards de dollars.La forte croissance d’iShares a été favorisée par un contexte porteur. Le secteur des ETF dans son ensemble a dépassé pour la première fois les 4.500 milliards de dollars d’encours, rappelle BlackRock. Mark Wiedman, responsable mondial d’iShares et des investissements indiciels chez BlackRock, prédit que le marché mondial des ETF va plus que doubler de taille d’ici à 2022.

Norges Bank Investment Management (NBIM), which manages the Norwegian oil fund, has announced the appointments of Carine Smith Ihenacho as head of corporate governance, Hege Gierde as chief financial officer, and Sirine Fodstad as head of human resources to its board of directors. The three appointees are already active at the fund in their respective areas, in a sign of the desire of NBIM to integrate corporate governance at the highest levels of responsibility at the fund.Assets at the Norwegian sovereign fund currently total NOK8.480trn, or slightly over EUR870bn.

According to the most recent official statistics, PIR posted inflows of EUR7.5bn in the first nine months of the year, with subscriptions of EUR2.2bn in third quarter. Inflows accelerated in the last three months of the year. Glenn Rockman, a partner at GHIF, will join the supervisory board at Themis. The fundraising will allow Themis to continue its programmes to develop clinical and pre-clinical vaccines, including its most advanced vaccine, against the chikungunya virus.
