Selon Citiwire, Fidelity vient de fermer son fonds FAST Europe aux nouveaux investisseurs compte tenu de la taille de son encours (2,5 milliards de dollars). Cette décision a été prise de façon à ce que les dépôts des nouveaux investisseurs n’aient pas un impact négatif sur la stratégie menée par le fonds. Ce dernier, géré par Anas Chakra, utilise des produits dérivés et un levier pour améliorer ses performances. Sur les trois dernières années, FAST Europe affiche un gain de 7,2% contre une baisse de 21,1% de l’indice MSCI Europe.
Citiwire rapporte que Jupiter vient d'être autorisé à lancer deux fonds d’investissement pilotés par le gérant-star Philip Gibbs au cours des trois prochains mois. Les deux fonds donneront à Gibbs - le seul gestionnaire à avoir été noté par Citywire depuis la création de la société il y a huit ans - la souplesse nécessaire pour gérer comme il l’entend. Dans le détail, le fonds de Jupiter «Absolute Return» profitant des dispositions de la directive OPCVM III donnera au gérant la possibilité de disposer de liquidité et d’investir dans des dérivés, afin, le cas échéant, de posséder la flexibilité nécessaire pour réagir rapidement aux conditions changeantes du marché. Le fonds a pour indice de référence le Libor 3 mois and sera géré de façon similaire au fonds alternatif de PhilipGibbs, Hyde Park hedge fund, avec cependant moins de volatilité et d’effet de levier. Le deuxième fonds, Jupiter Financials, est un fonds – également UCITS 3 - qui investira sur des valeurs financières internationales. A la différence du fonds Jupiter Financial Opportunities, il donnera au gérant la possibilité de vendre à découvert des titres ou des indices et aura pour référence le Footsie Global Financials.
La Deutsche Börse a annoncé mardi seulement l’admission à la négociation des onze nouveaux ETF obligataires de droit luxembourgeois lancés par ComStage (lire notre édition d’hier). Ces produits portent à 518 le nombre de fonds indiciels cotés sur le segment XTF de la plate-forme électronique Xetra de la Deutsche Börse. Le volume moyen de transaction sur ce genre de produits se situe à environ 12 milliards d’euros.
La plate-forme de trading Turquoise a annoncé le 27 octobre qu’elle allait renforcer son offre avec l’intégration à compter du 13 novembre de six ETC sur l’or, l’argent et le lingot d’or.
Le dernier sondage effectué par le berlinois Metrinomics auprès de la clientèle des sociétés de gestion en Europe fait ressortir que BlackRock et Carmignac Gestion sont les deux opérateurs que la majorité des personnes interrogées citent comme disposant du meilleur potentiel de «très forte croissance comparative». Six family offices (dont Taresta Family Office, BNPP Fortis, et Family Office Auris 4)ont regroupé leurs forces pour créer la société de gestion de fortune Mazabi Gestión de Patrimonios, qui débute avec plus de 300 millions d’euros, selon Funds People. Mazabi précise qu’elle emploie 13 professionnels du conseil et de la gestion justifiant chacun d’au moins 15 ans d’expérience et de quatre bureaux principaux (Madrid, Barcelone, Bilbao et Malaga).Le président de Mazabi est Vicente Gómez de la Cruz (Taresta) et le directeur général, Juan Antonio Guttiérez, (Fortis).
Le gestionnaire Renta 4 a annoncé lundi le lancement du hedge fund Spanish RMBS Fund qui, comme son nom l’indique investira en titrisations de prêtes hypothécaires ou Residential Mortgage Backed Securities (RMBS) principalement espagnoles, le plafond pour les émissions étrangères étant fixé à 30 %, rapporte Funds People. L'échéance moyenne des obligations sera de 15 ans et la duration moyenne du fonds variera entre 5 et 8 ans.Le fonds, à liquidité mensuelle, facturera 2 % de commission de gestion et 20 % de commission de performance, la souscription minimale étant fixée aux 50.000 euros légaux pour ce genre de produit.
Selon les statistiques de l’association espagnole Inverco des sociétés de gestion, l’encours des fonds de pension au 30 septembre ressortait à 82,16 milliards d’euros, ce qui représente une hausse de 3,7 milliards depuis le début de l’année, mais la progression se limite à 0,56 % sur douze mois pour le nombre de comptes (à 10,56 millions).
Les fonds de pension des pays de l’OCDE ont perdu l’an dernier 5.400 milliards de dollars. Ils ont ainsi enregistré en moyenne un rendement négatif de 21,4% en termes nominaux et de 24,1% en termes réels, indique l’OCDE dans son dernier bulletin sur les fonds de pension (Pension Markets in Focus, October, Issue 6).Toutefois, au premier semestre 2009, les fonds de pension, qui ont dégagé un rendement moyen de 3,5% en termes nominaux, ont récupéré plus de 1.500 milliards de dollars. Au 30 juin 2009, ils accusaient ainsi un manque à gagner de seulement 14% par rapport à leurs niveaux de décembre 2007. Le rebond des performances des fonds de pension s’est poursuivi jusqu’au 30 septembre dernier grâce au rally boursier mais il faudra encore un peu temps pour que le secteur efface complètement ses pertes, estime l’OCDE.Les fonds de pension les plus performants de la zone OCDE ont été ceux de la Norvège et de la Turquie qui ont affiché des rendements nominaux de plus de 10%. Par ailleurs, les fonds de pension américains ont dégagé un rendement moyen de 4% en termes nominaux alors que les fonds australiens se sont limités à 1%. Les fonds de ces deux derniers pays étaient d’ailleurs les plus exposés aux actions, 46% pour les Etats-Unis et 59% pour l’Australie.L’OCDE remarque toutefois qu’il serait fallacieux de se concentrer sur les performances d’une seule année. Sur les quinze dernières années, les fonds de pension américains ont ainsi dégagé un rendement moyen de 6,9% par an (ou 4,4% hors inflation) et les fonds suédois marquent une performance de 7,2% par an (ou 5,3% après inflation).
Mardi soir, la Commerzbank a annoncé qu’elle cèdait pour un montant non divulgué sa participation de 74 % dans l’autrichienne Privatinvest Bank de Salzbourg à la Banque cantonale de Zurich (BCZ ou ZKB en allemand). Cette transaction s’inscrit dans le cadre d’un repli de la Commerzbank sur un nombre restreint de sites pour l’activité de gestion de fortune. D’autre part, la cession de cette participation fait partie des engagements pris par la Commerzbank pour obtenir l’agrément de la Commission européenne aux aides du Fonds allemand de stabilisation des marchés financiers (SoFFin).A fin juin, la Privatinvest Bank, qui emploie 50 personnes à Salzbourg et à Vienne, affichait un encours de 600 millions d’euros. En revanche, les activités de la succursale de Vienne de la Commerzbank ne sont pas touchées par l’opération annoncée.

On s’attend que l’activité de banque d’investissement, qui n’intéresse par la Deutsche Bank, soit reprise par Macquarie, tandis que LGT se veut candidat à une reprise de la BHF, bien positionnée dans la banque privée et la gestion d’actifs, rapporte le Handelsblatt. Reste que la BHF a aussi une importante activité de conservation, qui intéresse potentiellement BNP Paribas, mais aussi BNY Mellon.

Oppenheim. Ce dernier ne garderait qu’un peu plus de 75 % d’une société en commandite par actions (KGaA) chargée de l’opérationnel et dont un peu moins de 25 % seraient aux mains des familles propriétaires actuelles. Cette formule serait fiscalement la plus intéressante.Die Welt indique que les anciens propriétaires percevront de surcroît des primes d’autant plus élevées que le nombre de clients conservés sera important.

The merger of so many products in one fell swoop is unprecedented in Spain.
According to EPFR Global, equities funds specialised in emerging markets as of the end of September had record net subscriptions of USD52.6bn since the beginning of the year, which is close to the record of USD54.3bn for 2007 as a whole. On the basis of weekly figures since the beginning of October (USD5.5bn), the 2007 record has probably already been beaten. And this more than makes up for net redemptions of USD49.5bn in the year 2008 as a whole. By comparison, US equities funds have seen net outflows of USD71bn in the first nine months of the year. Emerging markets bond funds, meanwhile, have seen USD3.2bn in net subscriptions in January-September, with weekly inflows of USD83m in second quarter, USD280m in third quarter, and USD780m in each of the first two weeks of October.
According to the most recent edition of a survey conducted in the UK by the Association of Investment Companies (AIC), the confidence of active investors has risen to its highest levels in three and a half years. The confidence of the general public is also recovering: though they remain more cautious, they have not been so positively disposed to the equities markets since 2004. 52% of active investors are planning to increase their exposure to the equities markets in the course of the next few months, compared with 33% in September 2008 and 33% in September 2007. Approximately 62% of active investors estimate that equities will perform better than real estate in the next twelve months. Appetite for risk is also on the rise, as 17% of active investors consider small firms to be attractive investment targets, twice as many as in February this year. Also, after six months of rallying equities markets, among the 9% of active investors who are reducing their exposure to equities, more than one quarter (27%) say they are taking their profits.
Aviva plc has appointed Patrick Regan to the position of CFO. Regan, currently CEO and CFO of the global insurance group Willis Group Holdings (“Willis”), and president of the firm Willis Capital Markets & Advisory, which he recently founded, will begin in his new position in February 2010, and will at the same time become a member of the board of directors at the Aviva plc group.
The British banking group Barclays announced on 26 October that it has acquired the banking activities of Standard Life for a total of GBP226m. With the acquisition, Barclays gains a savings portfolio of GBP5.5bn, and a mortgage portfolio of GBP8.8bn. Barclays UK Retail Banking and Standard Life have also signed an agreement to study potential areas of cooperation in long-term savings, with the development of a multi-channel simplified retirement product.
As part of a commercial agreement, Share plc, the parent company of The Share Centre Ltd. and Sharefunds Ltd., will acquire a 5% stake in the capital of Way Group Ltd., the holding company that owns Way Fund Managers Ltd., Way Investment Services Ltd., and Elite Administration Services Ltd., for three payments of GBP157,500, and thus a total of GBP472,500. Way Fund Managers will outsource the administration of its approximately 40 funds to Sharefunds.
The Irish boutique specialised in fund administration Apex Fund Services has launched its first range of services in China, according to Asian Investor. The firm already has four fund administration mandates in China, and is hoping to increase that number to six in the near future. The firm, which has had offices in Shanghai since 2008, where it currently has four employees, is planning to open an office in Australia. Apex has been present in Asia since January 2008. Its Hong Kong and Singapore offices have eight and 16 employees, respectively, and administer 60 funds.
Das Investment reports that all ETF funds from db x-trackers (Deutsche Bank) are now invested in a uniform portfolio of about 1,000 equities, corresponding roughly to the MSCI World index, which covers 1,700 equities. Only two of these products, the fund based on the Dax and the one based on the MSCI World index itself, remain to be brought into line with this policy, which will be achieved in the next few weeks. The move will prevent future events similar to Morningstar’s observation in late 2007 that the portfolio of a db x-trackers ETF replicating the Dax was solely exposed to Japanese equities plus a swap.
AGEFI Switzerland reports that Rothschild Private Banking & Trust will continue to develop its activities in key markets, with the recruitment of five new partners, three of whom will be located in London and two in Switzerland. In Zurich, the two client advisors Joe Maersch and Jochen Vogler will leave Morgan Stanley and Deutsche Bank for Rothschild, which will allow Rothschild to further strengthen its presence in Switzerland. In the past twelve months, the number of client advisors in the Swiss team has risen from 12 to 16. In London, Penny Lovell, Rob Stewart and Hugo Capel-Cure will join Rothschild Private Banking & Trust. Lovell will become Client Director at Rothschild Private Banking & Trust. Stewart will become Head of Fixed Income, while Capel-Cure will become Senior Portfolio Manager.

US District Judge Jed S. Rakoff, who is in charge of the insider trading case against the founder of the hedge fund Galleon, Raj Rajaratnam, and his suspected accomplices, is requiring the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to prepare for a civil suit which may begin in five months’ time, the Wall Street Journal reports. The unusual demand may require the SEC to produce evidence of the defendants’ guilt even before their criminal trial.
The Spaniard Rodrigo Amandi, currently an equities research analyst and member of the SAM Sustainability Lab, was appointed on Monday as managing director and co-head of the Indexes and Sustainability Services division of SAM from 1 January 2010. He joined the firm in 2006 as an analyst specialised in chemical sector equities. His duties will include coordinating development activities with SAM’s partners in the area of indexes worldwide and defining strategy for the Indexes and Sustainability division.

The British financial sector regulator (FSA) announced on 26 October that the major British banks had agreed to follow new rules governing the publication of financial information, in order to respond to concerns in the international financial community. The new rules are set out in a document which remains open for consultation until 30 April 2010. The FSA is hoping to significantly improve the quality and comparability of financial information provided by banks and other lenders. The new code will be applied tot he 2009 annual results. If these disclosures of results do not meet expectations, the regulatory body reserves the right to replace the code which is under consultation with stricter rules.
On Monday, Commerzbank announced that its range of ETF funds bearing the ComStage brand (51 funds) has grown by 11 products, as licences have been issued for bond ETFs replicating Markit iBoxx indexes. The ComStage product range, which now includes 62 funds, covers equities, bonds, commodities and money markets. The new ComStaeg products are available for trading on the Stuttgart and Frankfurt stock markets as well as the Xetra electronic platform from Deutsche Börse. The new products were launched on the 5, 7, and 8 October.
