Le gestionnaire d’actifs japonais Nikko Asset Management (Nikko AM) et son homologue britannique Legal & General Investment Management (LGIM) ont signé un accord de coopération portant sur la fourniture de services de gestion de portefeuilles, ont annoncé les deux sociétés dans un communiqué commun daté du 11 mai. En vertu de cet accord, LGIM et Legal & General Investment Management America fourniront des produits obligataires mondiaux que Nikko AM distribuera auprès des investisseurs japonais, principalement des banques et des compagnies d’assurances japonaises. Les premiers fonds concernés devraient être lancés mi-2016, indiquent les partenaires. The new association offers its members a platform “to identify, discuss and manage various aspects in areas such as regulation of the financial sector, development of new products, and the search for new infrastructure solutions,” a statement from the AGFS announced on Wednesday, 11 May. The various actors involved in the association claim that in the current regulatory environment, “a constant exchange of expertise is becoming essential.” The association will hold conferences and will allow its members to consult on best practices, the statement adds.

The news, broken by the specialist website Funds People, has been confirmed to NewsManagers by a spokesperson for the firm. Oddo Meriten AM is planning to make an official announcement in mid-June. The name of the head of the new structure has not yet officially been announced. However, according to Funds People, the Spanish office will be led by Leonardo Lopez, previously head for the Iberian peninsula at the ETF provider Source. Lopez has long experience in the asset management industry. Before joining Source in 2014, he worked at Threadneedle Investments as director of sales for Spain and Latin America. Over his career, he has also worked at CM Capital Markets and Inversis Banco, according to his LinkedIn profile.

He will be responsible for the Italian team in Milan, and will report to Steven de Fries, head of European retail sales. Pons has worked at Henderson for 15 years as head of sales. His appointment comes after the sudden death of Giorgio Giovannini, former country head for the asset management firm in Italy. Henderson GI has had offices in Italy since 2000. Recruitments are planned in the next few months. “Henderson Italy is entering a new phase in its development, which will focus on the target audience of financial advisers and private bankers,” says Greg Jones, managing director, distribution.

As part of the initiative, a series of workshops will be held in several cities in the United Kingdom during the year. Several subjects will be discussed, such as the characteristics of ETFs, why and how they are traded, and how to access them. The first events will be held in London on 20 June on the premises of BMO. Ten other workshops will follow in cities to include Glasgow, Edinburgh, Manchester, Birmingham and Bristol.

The strongest rebound came at Legg Mason, which, month over month, has posted growth in its assets under management of 5.3%, to USD707.1bn as of the end of April 2016. The asset management firm has seen USD2.5bn in net outflows from bonds. Meanwhile, equity funds have seen USD1.4bn in net redemptions, while alternative products have posted USD1.1bn in net outflows. Liquidity products showed USD6.7bn in net outflows in April. Legg Mason was, however, able to benefit from a positive currency effect of about EUR2.6bn, and most of all from a contribution of USD41.5bn in assets from Clarion Partners, acquired on 13 April 2016. Invesco has seen an increase of 1.6% to its asets, to USD783.7bn. This increase was also driven by positive currency effects totalling USD3.2bn. The 100% takeover of its Indian joint venture with Religare Enterprises Limited has allowed the firm to increase its assets by about USD2.4bn. Invesco gave no details, however, about inflows over the past month. AllianceBernstein (AB) and Franklin Templeton have also returned to growth, but to a lesser extent than their rivals. AB has posted an increase in its assets of only 0.8% to USD483bn as of the end of April 2016. This increase is related “to a positive currency effect, partly offset by a net outflow,” AB has announced, without releasing figures. Franklin Templeton has seen an increase in its assets of 0.6% to USD747.1bn as of the end of April 2016. The asset management firm offered no explanations for this monthly growth.
The US asset management firm Columbia Threadneedle Investments has announced that it has signed an agreement on behalf of its affiliate Columbia Management Investment Advisers to acquire Emerging Global Advisors, an investment consulting firm and provider of smart beta portfolios focused on emerging markets. The operation, whose price has not been disclosed, will make it possible “to significantly increase the smart beta expertise at Columbia Threadneedle Investments,” the asset management firm states. The transaction will be completed by the end of 2016.Emerging Global Advisors had USD892m in assets as of the end of April 2016. It has a range of ETFs entitled EGShares, which included nine emerging market equity ETFs. The ETFs track custom indices, namely: Beyond BRICs (BBRC), EM Core Ex-China (XCEM), EM Quality Dividend (HILO), EM Strategic Opportunities (EMSO), Emerging Markets Consumer (ECON), Emerging Markets Core (EMCR), India Consumer (INCO), India Infrastructure (INXX), and lastly, India Small Cap (SCIN).
Standard Life Investments (Hong Kong), an affiliate of the eponymous asset management firm, and Bosera Asset Management (International), an asset management firm based in Hong Kong, have teamed up to jointly launch the Bosera-Standard Life Investments Emerging Opportunities Bond fund, a bond vehicle focused on emerging markets. The new product is a sub-fund of Bosera Investments Funds, an investment trust licensed by the Hong Kong regulator.The new fund aims for preservation of capital and generation of income by investing in debt instruments and currencies from emerging markets worldwide. The fund was launched on 9 May in Hong Kong, and will invest 70% of its assets in a wide range of government and corporate bond and currencies from emerging markets. It may also invest up to 20% of its assets in bonds issued or underwritten by single government issuers with ratings below investment grade, or with no rating. The remainder of the fund may be invested in debt instruments issued in developed countries.The fund is not subject to any constraints with respect to country or geographical region, and does not impose any limits on exposure to any country or region. However, it may not invest over 20% of its assets in onshore Chinese securities.The new fund will be managed by Kai He, head of fixed income at Bosera International, who will be responsible for allocation of the portfolio for continental China and Hong Kong. The co-manager of the fund will be Richard House, head of emerging market bonds at Standard Life Investments, who will provide management of the allocation of the portfolio to all emerging markets outside China and Hong Kong.The fund represents the first step in a strategic collaboration between Standard Life Investments and Bosera International. The two partners plan to continue their collaboration in many areas, such as product innovation and investment management.

Since January, the category had been negative every month (and zero in March). Since the beginning of the year, it still shows net redemptions of SEK13.6bn. The regain in interest for equity funds mostly benefited Swedish equity funds, which took in SEK1.5bn, and global equity funds, with SEK1.6bn. In April, diversified funds also posted net subscriptions of SEK2.5bn, as did bond funds, with SEK400m, hedge funds, with SEK600m, while money market funds saw outflows of SEK3.5bn. “Other” funds show net inflows of SEK2.2bn. In the month, Swedish funds thus show net inflows of SEK7.2bn. Since the beginning of the year, inflows total SEK2.4bn. As of the end of April, funds on sale in Sweden had total assets of SEK3.162trn, up by SEK13bn for the month. Of this total, 55% is invested in equity funds.

Les stocks d’essence ont baissé de 1,2 million de barils, alors que les économistes attendaient un recul de 710.000. Les cours du pétrole ont terminé hier en forte hausse sur le marché new-yorkais du Nymex. Le contrat juin sur le brut léger américain (West Texas Intermediate, WTI) a gagné 1,57 dollar, soit 3,52%, à 46,23 dollars le baril. Au moment de la clôture du Nymex, le Brent prenait 2,08 dollars (4,57%) à 47,60 dollars.
Les Etats-Unis ont dégagé en avril un excédent budgétaire de 106 milliards de dollars, en baisse de 32% sur un an en raison notamment d’effets calendaires, a annoncé hier le département américain du Trésor. Cet excédent est inférieur aux attentes des économistes, qui le prédisaient à 112 milliards de dollars. Depuis le début de l’exercice fiscal le 1er octobre, le déficit s'élève à 355 milliards de dollars, en hausse de 25% par rapport aux 283 milliards enregistrés à la même époque de l’année en 2015.
La Banque du Japon a encore les moyens d’assouplir considérablement sa politique monétaire si l’inflation ne remonte pas, déclare Haruhiko Kuroda, son gouverneur, dans un entretien publié hier par le journal allemand Börsen Zeitung. «L’assouplissement quantitatif, l’assouplissement qualitatif, les taux d’intérêt négatifs - ce sont trois dimensions où l’on peut agir», indique-t-il. «Nous pouvons toujours assouplir substantiellement notre politique monétaire si nous le jugeons nécessaire», a-t-il insisté, estimant que la Banque du Japon n’est «certainement pas» à court de munitions. La société de gestion suédoise Tundra Fonder, experte des marchés frontières, a ouvert un bureau à Ho Chi Minh Ville au Vietnam. Dans le même temps, elle a recruté Duc Nguyen, spécialiste des actions vietnamiennes, en tant que country officer.En mai 2014, Tundra avait déjà lancé un fonds actions vietnamiennes géré activement. A l’occasion de la publication de ses résultats trimestriels, le groupe Allianz a annoncé que son pôle de gestion d’actifs a enregistré une décollecte nette de 9,1 milliards d’euros au cours du premier trimestre 2016, en forte réduction par rapport aux 62 milliards d’euros de rachats nets enregistrés au premier trimestre 2015. Dans le détail, Allianz Global Investors (AllianzGI) a réalisé 1 milliard d’euros de collecte nette, signant ainsi un treizième trimestre consécutif de collecte nette positive. A l’inverse, la filiale américaine Pimco a subi 10,1 milliards d’euros de décollecte nette, contre 68 milliards d’euros de retraits nets au premier trimestre 2015. Dans un tel contexte, les encours gérés pour compte de tiers enregistrent un recul de 2,6% d’un trimestre sur l’autre, s’établissant à 1.242 milliards d’euros à fin mars 2016 contre 1.276 milliards d’euros à fin décembre 2015. Outre l’impact de la décollecte nette, le pôle de gestion d’actifs d’Allianz a également été pénalisé par un effet de change négatif de 41,7 milliards d’euros. Dans le détail, les encours gérés pour compte de tiers de Pimco ont reculé de 2% d’un trimestre sur l’autre, s’inscrivant à 963 milliards d’euros à fin mars 2016 contre 987 milliards d’euros à fin décembre. En parallèle, les actifs gérés pour compte de tiers d’AllianzGI ont diminué de 4% pour atteindre 279 milliards d’euros à fin mars 2016 contre 289 milliards d’euros à fin 2015. A l’issue du premier trimestre 2016, les revenus du pôle gestion d’actifs d’Allianz accusent un repli de 11,8% pour s’établir à 1,4 milliard d’euros au 31 mars 2016 contre 1,6 milliard d’euros au 31 mars 2015. Dans le détail, les revenus de Pimco ont diminué de 13,7% sur un an pour ressortir à 985 millions d’euros à fin mars 2016 contre 1,14 milliard d’euros à fin mars 2015. Dans le même temps, les revenus d’AllianzGI ont reculé de 6,5% sur un an pour atteindre 407 millions d’euros au 31 mars 2016 contre 435 millions d’euros au 31 mars 2015.A la fin du premier trimestre 2016, le résultat opérationnel du pôle gestion d’actifs accuse un repli de 16,5% pour s’établir à 463 millions d’euros à fin mars 2016 contre 555 millions d’euros à fin mars 2015.
Le groupe Credit Suisse qui présentait ses résultats trimestriels, mardi 10 mai, a enregistré une perte avant impôts de 484 millions de francs, contre un bénéfice avant impôts déclaré de 1 511 millions de francs au premier trimestre 2015.La division International Wealth Management (IWM) a néanmoins enregistré 6,9 milliards de francs de nouveaux capitaux nets, avec une marge brute de 109 points de base pour le Private Banking. Le recrutement de 90 nouveaux conseillers clientèle a été lancé, y compris les nouveaux collaborateurs engagés, avec deux tiers dédiés aux marchés émergents. "À APAC, nous avons 100 conseillers de plus qu’à la fin du premier trimestre 2015, ce qui porte le total à 630 conseillers à la fin du premier trimestre 2016, contre 530 un an auparavant», indique Credit Suisse. Dans le contexte difficile de ce premier trimestre, toutes nos divisions axées sur la gestion de fortune ont enregistré de très bonnes performances, générant une croissance rentable, a indiqué Tidjane Thiam, chief executive officer du Credit Suisse. Credit Suisse a annoncé la nomination d’Eric Varvel, qui rejoindra la division International Wealth Management de la banque à partir du 1er juin 2016 au poste de «Global Head Asset Management». Il travaillera sous la direction d’Iqbal Khan, CEO International Wealth Management. Eric Varvel sera membre du comité de gestion d’IWM et succède à son nouveau poste à Bob Jain, qui a quitté Credit Suisse en avril pour rejoindre un hedge fund. Eric Varvel a rejoint le groupe Credit Suisse il y a plus de 25 ans et a notamment occupé les fonctions de CEO Investment Banking et CEO Asie Pacifique et CEO Europe, Moyen-Orient et Afrique au sein de la banque.
