La commissaire européenne au Commerce, Cecilia Malmström, va rencontrer le représentant américain au Commerce, Robert Lighthizer, la semaine prochaine à Washington pour de nouvelles discussions sur le commerce, selon Dow jones, qui cite une source proche du dossier à Washington. La rencontre devrait se dérouler le 14 novembre. Washington et Bruxelles s’efforcent depuis des mois de matérialiser par un accord le principe d’une entente commerciale annoncée fin juillet par le président américain, Donald Trump, et le chef de la Commission européenne, Jean-Claude Juncker. Ils s'étaient engagés à «travailler à l'élimination des droits de douane, des barrières non tarifaires et des subventions sur les biens industriels» mais en excluant alors le secteur automobile.
La société de gestion Apicap obtient la gestion d’Essor PME La Réunion. Ce fonds a été lancé conjointement par La Financière Région Réunion et le Fonds Européen d’Investissement (FEI), principal investisseur institutionnel européen, dans le cadre du programme opérationnel FEDER « Réunion Conseil Régional 2014-2021 » pour l’île de La Réunion. Le fonds doit renforcer les entreprises réunionnaises et leur permettre d’investir. Apicap va ainsi injecter plus de 30 millions d’euros dans l’économie réunionnaise, dans plus d’une trentaine de participations sur les 5 prochaines années. Le Programme Opérationnel Européen 2014-2015 permet aux Régions d’orienter une partie des Fonds Structurels d’Investissement (les FESI, comme le FEDER, le FSE, le FEAMP) vers un pot commun que l’on appelle : Fonds de Fonds (FdF). La Région Réunion a donc constitué un fonds de fonds en puisant dans le FEDER a hauteur de 24 M€. Elle a complété à hauteur de 6 M€ sur ses fonds propres, soit une enveloppe totale de 30 M€. Pour atteindre une masse critique, la collectivité régionale a également sollicité les fonds Juncker, via la BEI, à hauteur de 20 M€. Au total, 50 M€, dont 40 M€ destinés à un outil de prêt et 10 M€ pour un outil en capital. Six ans après son arrivée sur l’île de La Réunion et un an après l’ouverture de son bureau permanent, Apicap revendique le rang d’investisseur principal de La Réunion avec près de 48 M€ sous gestion dédiés à l’économie ultramarine. Selon les informations du Monde, la société Carmignac Gestion est visée par une enquête du Parquet national financier (PNF), ouverte il y a seize mois, pour « fraude fiscale » et « blanchiment de fraude fiscale », après une plainte de l’administration fiscale.
La société de gestion allemande TBF Global Asset Management a décidé d’attribuer, à compter du 1er décembre, la dénomination TBF à l’ensemble de ses fonds commercialisés. Les dénominations «4Q» ou «Rockcap» seront ainsi remplacées par TBF. La société de gestion modifie également quelques dénominations pour mieux souligner l’orientation du fonds. Ces changements n’entraînent aucun impact sur la gestion des différents produits mais doivent permettre de mieux établir la marque TBF sur le marché. TBF gère environ 2 milliards d’euros dans des fonds spécialisés notamment sur les valeurs des secteurs de l’industrie, de l'énergie, de la technologie en Amérique du Nord, en Europe et en Asie.
AEW Ciloger a annoncé ce 7 novembre l’acquisition, pour le compte de plusieurs de ses fonds grand public, SCPI et OPCI, de la Tour Prisma située à la Défense, auprès d’Invesco Real Estate. Cette tour de bureaux, qui développe une surface d’environ 23.000 mètres carrés, répartis sur 22 étages, est entièrement louée à 4 locataires. Cette tour bénéficie des certifications environnementales HQE Bâtiment Tertiaire en Exploitation «Exceptionnel» et BREEAM in-Use «VeryGood».

Legal & General Investment Management (LGIM) vient de recruter Sonja Laud comme directrice adjointe des investissements (deputy CIO) et William Riley en tant que responsable des solutions. Sonja Laud vient de Fidelity International où elle était responsable des actions et où elle a fait partie de l’équipe de gestion des actions monde. Elle a également travaillé chez Barings, Schroders et DWS. William Riley arrive pour sa part en provenance de BlackRock, où il a occupé plusieurs postes, dont celui de responsable de la gestion de portefeuilles de solutions clients pour l’Europe, le Moyen-Orient et l’Afrique. William Riley travaillera sous la responsabilité de Sonja Laud, elle-même rattachée au CIO, Anton Eser.
L’Etat actionnaire a perçu 2,8 milliards d’euros de dividendes en 2017, un montant qui a poursuivi l’an dernier le mouvement de baisse continue observée depuis 2012, selon Reuters, citant un rapport annexé au projet de loi de finances pour 2019. Ce recul par rapport aux 3,5 milliards d’euros perçus en 2016 s’explique notamment par “la baisse du dividende versé par EDF et Engie”, peut-on lire dans ce document publié en fin de semaine dernière sur internet. Sur les 2,8 milliards d’euros de dividendes encaissés par l’Etat en 2017, 1,3 milliard ont été perçus en titres - EDF procédant depuis 2015 à des versements en actions - et la quasi-totalité (2,5 milliards) provenaient des entreprises cotées du portefeuille. Au 30 juin 2018, la valorisation des douze participations de l’Etat dans des entreprises cotées en Bourse au sein du portefeuille géré par l’Agence des participations de l’Etat (APE) s’élevait à 77,5 milliards d’euros, est-il précisé dans ce rapport. Ce montant inclut la part des actions EDF et Thales qui ont représenté une partie de la dotation initiale ayant permis la mise en place du fonds pour l’innovation mi-janvier mais n’intègre ni les participations dans des sociétés non cotées, ni les participations détenues via Bpifrance ou la Caisse des dépôts. Entre juin 2017 et juin 2018, la “valeur boursière du portefeuille a profité de la bonne dynamique des entreprises des secteurs de l’énergie (prépondérantes dans sa composition) et de l’aéronautique et défense”, est-il souligné dans le rapport, qui évoque la “très bonne performance” de ce portefeuille. En application de la “redéfinition” du rôle de l’Etat actionnaire portée par le ministre de l’Economie et des Finances Bruno Le Maire, l’année 2019 devrait être marquée par les privatisations d’ADP et de la Française des jeux (FDJ), voire une diminution de la participation de l’Etat dans Engie dans le sillage de la future loi pour la croissance et la transformation des entreprises (Pacte).

British alternative manager CZ Capital has been authorised by German and French financial market regulators to distribute its CZ Absolute Alpha Ucits fund towards investors based in both countries, NewsManagers can reveal. The long/short UK equity strategy has been approved for marketing in Germany as from 31 October 2018 and in France since 5 November 2018. The strategy is also available under a Cayman fund format. CZ Capital was co-founded in April 2006 by former Deutsche Asset Management fund managers Charles Curtis and Steven Evans.
Anthony Kelly, co-director of the asset management unit of the SEC, the United States regulator, will be leaving the institution in November, after more than 18 years of service. The asset management division focuses on shortfalls by financial advisers and providers of financial services. The other co-head of the service, Dabney O’Riordan, will serve as director following the departure of Kelly, who had been employed in the division since 2010.
Toscafund Asset Management and MLCapital have launched the Tosca Ucits fund, a global long/short equity fund registered on the Irish-domiciled MontLake Ucits platform. The Tosca fund invests primarily in equities across the entire value chain of financials globally. It will be run by Johnny de la Hey, who has been the manager for Tosca since December 2008. He is supported by a team of analysts with expertise in global financials, property and business services. Toscafund Asset Management has around $4bn of assets under management.
US investment banking company Stifel is to combine the investment banking equities business of its London-based arm Stifel Europe with these of German financial group Mainfirst, located in Frankfurt. Consequently, Stifel Europe acquires MainFirst Bank AG, MainFirst Schweiz AG and MainFirstSecurities US. Terms of the transaction, which is awaiting regulator approvals and whose closing is expected in Q1 2019, were not disclosed. Mainfirst specified the acquisition does not affect MainFirst Asset Management which was split off from MainFirst Bank AG this year and now operates under its new independent corporate structure as MainFirst Affiliated Fund Managers (Germany) GmbH. The firms said the merger creates a Pan-European platform and that thanks to MainFirst’s German banking license, Stifel will continue offering corporate advisory, brokerage and investment banking services and clear and settle secondary equity and fixed income trades post-Brexit.

Dutch manager Robeco has appointed Jan De Bruijn as client portfolio manager at the start of November, NewsManagers has learned. Prior to that, he founded and led EM equity boutique Sephira EM Asia in London where he managed an Asian equities conviction fund from March 2017 to September 2018. De Bruijn also held roles of head of Global Emerging Markets at Mackenzie Investments in Singapore and head of Asian Equities at Gartmore. Other roles in connection with Asian and emerging equities were with Columbia Threadneedle, Scottish Widows, Shell and Canada Life.

Paris-headquartered asset manager Fourpoints IM has fully acquired equity value conviction boutique Pastel & Associés, launched in 1997 by David Pastel. The transaction has been given the green light from French market authority AMF. David Pastel will integrate Fourpoints IM’s board and will hold his role of co-portfolio manager of the Valeur Intrinsèque alongside Damien Audoyer. Pastel & Associés focuses on global equities and invests in quality companies temporarily underlooked by financial markets.Fourpoints IM’s chairman François Pasquier said the company will now have teams covering global, US and European equities as well as asset allocation and multimanagement while David Pastel underlined the merger will enable to ensure the identity, the independence and the persistence of the Valeur Intrinsèque fund process that will join Fourpoints IM’s existing fund range.Through this acquisition, Fourpoints, which has also a New York subsidiary (Fourpoints AM), has exceeded the €300m assets under management threshold. In October 2017, French IFA Herez, that sought to establish its own asset management firm to face MiFID II directive, became the majority shareholder of Fourpoints after merger talks with Ycap Asset Management failed. Former Richelieu’s CEO Nathalie Martin-Pelras had been recruited as Fourpoints CEO.
The Cyrus group has announced that it has completed its acquisition of Capitis Conseil. The agreement has been finalised between Meyer Azogui, chairman of Cyrus Conseil, and Jean-Michel Coy, founder of Capitis Conseil. The Cyrus group entered exclusive negotiations with Capitis conseil in July this year (see NewsManagers of 17 July 2018).“This merger will allow Capitis Conseil to benefit from the resources developed by Cyrus to pursue its development,” Cyrus says in a statement. Coy will now become managing partner and a member of the board of directors at Cyrus, and will contribute with Azogui and his partners to develop a “reflex” brand in the field of private management and wealth management.“After building up its independent capital resources over the spring, Cyrus Conseil aims to unite sizeable CGP actors who share the same values and understand the need to join forces under a strong brand to take on the numerous challenges arising from growing regulation,” the Cyrus group says.Coy founded Capitis Conseil in 1991, and has become one of the main independent financial advisers (CGPI) serving the Rhône-Alpes region, with EUR250m in assets advised, and nine employees. “This is a logical development in a regulatory environment which is imposing requirements for new resources to offer high added value services to our clients,” he says.“Our desire is to continue to grow by uniting colleagues who wish to concretise their success by selling their firm, while participating in a great human and business adventure,” says Azogui.
MyFunds Office, specialised in external distribution of placement funds in Europe, and the alternative asset management firm Tobam, on 6 November announced that they have signed a distribution partnership. Under the agreement, the sales team from MyFunds Office may distribute Anti-Benchmark funds from Tobam to all French independent financial advisers (CGPI). CGPIs will now have access to all expertise and investment solutions from Tobam. With this agreement, “Tobam hopes to accelerate its development serving these clients in Europe, particularly through the launch of a product range adapted to wealth management clients,” the firm says in a statement. MyFunds Office will be responsible for distributing the Anti-Benchmark Multi Asset fund, the latest in the Tobam product range.Tobam, founded in 2005 by Yves Choueifaty, has developed a patented “Maximum Diversification” approach. With offices in Paris, New York, Dublin, and Hong Kong, the firm has 54 asset management professionals, with 23 in research and portfolio management. Swiss private banks Banque Heritage and Sallfort Privatbank,headquartered in Geneva and Basel respectively, have announced they will merge on 3 January 2019. The entity resulting from the merger will operate under the Banque Heritage brand and full integration is expected to be achieved by mid-2019. «Banque Heritage SA and Sallfort Privatbank AG merge as proportionate equals. The decision to merge is mutual and based on close personal relationships, shared values, and a common business heritage. Through the merger, the two banks seek to jointly expand business operations and increase market presence. Assets under Management of the combined entity number CHF6bn,» explained the firms in a joint statement. Banque Heritage and Sallfort Privatbank are majority controlled by the Esteve and Barth families respectively. The new institution’s board of directors will be headed by Paul-Andre Sanglard (chairman) and Carlos Esteve (deputy chairman) while the executive committee will be chaired by Marcos Esteve as CEO and Johannes Barth as deputy CEO. The headquarters will remain in Geneva with offices in Zurich, Basel and Sion. Following the deal, Michael Bornhaeusser is to leave Sallfort’s shareholders group.

Mirabaud and Palma join the four current managing partners at the group: Yves Mirabaud, Antonio Palma, Lionel Aeschliimann, and Camille Vial.Mirabaud, 44, represents the seventh generation of the founding family of the group. He joined Mirabaud in 1999 as a fund analyst, and in 2001 joined the wealth management department. In 2015, he became a limited partner, and since 2016, he has been head of client relationships in the wealth management unit for the group. He is also a member of the executive board at Banque Mirabaud & Cie.Michael Palma, 36, is the son of Antonio Palma, managing partner at Mirabaud. After serving in a variety of positions at Swiss banks, he joined Mirabaud in 2010. Since 2016, he has been chief operating officer for the group, and a member of the executive board. In 2017, he was appointed as a limited partner.The Swiss group has also appointed Camille Vial, managing partner, to the chair of the executive board at the private bank Mirabaud & Cie, in which position she will success the elder Palma as of 1 July, 2019, Vial also represents the seventh generation of the founding family of the group. She has been a managing partner since January 2012, and is a member of the executive board at the group. Vial, 41, is chair of the investment committee at the group and the corporate social responsibility (RSE) committee. She began her career at Mirabaud in 2001.Thiago Frazao, head for the Latin American market fot the wealth management unit, has been appointed as a limited partner with effect from 1 January 2019. He joins Etienne d’Arenberg, limited partner and head of wealth management for the British market. Frazao, 42, joined Mirabaud in 2011. He began his career in the field of banking and finance in 1999, and has served in a variety of roles at international companies.
Norwegian investment firm Pareto Asset Management soft-launched the Pareto Nordic Equity fund on 31 October 2018, NewsManagers can reveal. This new sub-fund of Pareto’s Luxembourg Sicav invests primarily in Nordic equities regardless of their market capitalisation or their industry sector. It is run by ToreVæret, Patrick Meum and Hans-Marius Lee Ludvigsen (analyst). The team already works as co-managers of the Pareto Investment and Pareto Nordic Return funds. Some 20% of the fund’s net assets can be poured into fixed income instruments, mainly sovereign bonds and convertible bonds. In 2018, Pareto opened offices in Frankfurt and Stockholm.
Springrowth SGR, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Muzinich & Co, on 6 November announced the first closing of the Diversified Enterprises Credit Fund (DECF), the first parallel lending vehicle to be launched in Italy. DECF, a closed vehicle with an eight-year investment duration, has received EUR210m in engagements from a large group of Italian and international institutional investors. The European investment fund (EIF) and the Cassa Depositi e Prestiti (CDP) “have played key investor roles in this initiative aiming to bring financing for Italian SMEs to the parallel capital market in the banking sector,” the asset management firm says in a statement. “Through this strategy, we engage both as a major player in the field of bank loans in the intermediated market, and we act as a parallel lender alongside Italian banks, to allow for a very diversified portfolio of loans to be created, Gianluca Orrichio, chairman and CEO of Springrowth, explains in a statement.
BlackRock a liquidé le fonds actions BlackRock Global Long-Horizon Equity Fund, qui n’a pas réussi à capter les capitaux espérés, a appris le site spécialisé Citywire Selector. Le fonds lancé en juillet 2016 était géré le duo de gérants Stuart Reeve et Ancrez Wheatley-Hubbard. Le fonds de conviction s’intéressait en priorité aux sociétés bénéficiant d’un avantage concurrentiel durable et susceptibles en conséquence d'être détenues sur le long terme. Le fonds a été fermé alors que ses actifs sous gestion s'élevaient à seulement 6,6 millions de dollars, un montant jugé insuffisant pour une exploitation commerciale viable.

Auparavant, elle a occupé des postes à responsabilité dans les domaines du développement commercial et de la gestion des produits chez J.P. Morgan Asset Management et Neuberger Berman.
Mobius Capital Partners, la société de gestion fondée par Mark Mobius, se lance en Amérique latine grâce à un accord exclusif avec le groupe BTG Pactual, a appris Citywire Americas. Depuis le 1er novembre 2018, BTG Pactual assure ainsi la distribution du Mobius Emerging Markets Fund auprès des investisseurs institutionnels de la région. Domicilié au Luxembourg et lancé le 24 septembre, ce fonds investit dans des entreprises de taille moyenne des pays émergents et des marchés frontières. Fondé en mai 2018, Mobius Capital Partners gère 160 millions de dollars, selon un porte-parole de la société cité par Citywire Americas.
Ping An Insurance a dépassé BlackRock comme principal actionnaire de HSBC Holdings, avec une participation de 12 milliards de dollars, ce qui illustre l’appétit grandissant de la Chine pour les investissements en actions étrangères, rapporte le Wall Street Journal. Ping An Insurance, par le biais de son activité gestion d’actifs, a augmenté sa participation dans la banque à plus de 7 % la semaine dernière, contre 5 % en décembre. BlackRock détenait 6,6 % de HSBC en octobre.
Pareto Asset Management, société de gestion basée à Oslo, alancé le fonds Pareto Nordic Equity en date du 31 octobre 2018, a appris NewsManagers. Ce nouveau compartiment de la Sicav luxembourgeoise du gérant norvégien investit dans les actions des marchés nordiques indépendamment de leur capitalisation boursière et ou de leur industrie. Il est géré par Tore Været, Patrick Meum et Hans-Marius Lee Ludvigsen (analyste), cogérants des fonds Pareto Investment et Pareto Nordic Return. Le fonds peut investir jusqu’à 20% de ses actifs nets dans des instruments obligataires, principalement des obligations souveraines et des convertibles. En 2018, Pareto Asset Management a ouvert deux antennes à Francfort et Stockholm.
