The California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS) has selected Invesco Real Estate as a new manager for its Multifamily Real Estate Program. The partnership, named Institutional Core Multifamily Investors, will invest in multifamily properties, focused in the western US region. The Institutional Core Multifamily Investors partnership is a multiyear program that will fund with an initial allocation of $250 million. The partnership will seek to build a stable income-oriented portfolio of institutional-quality core apartment assets focusing on select target markets in the West and Midwest U.S. CalPERS currently holds approximately $2 billion in assets in its multifamily program, with a total of $24.5 billion in the Real Assets portfolio.

The fund, whose promoter had been Genevalor, is suing the bank on the grounds that it failed to fulfil its role as depositary, including verification of the existence of assets. Thema is seeking EUR1bn, according to Bloomberg. HSBC is facing 50 lawsuits related to the Madoff scandal in Ireland, and claims it has solid arguments in its defense. According to a lawyer for Thema, HSBC is responsible for losses, as it appointed Madoff as sub-depositary for the fund.

The products cover equities in 17 countries: Brazil, Chile, China, Czech Republic, Hungary, India, Indonesia, South Korea, Malaysia, Mexico. Philippines, Poland, Russia, South Africa, Taiwan, Thailand, and Turkey.The products are the WisdomTree Emerging Markets Consumer Growth Fund, WisdomTree Emerging Markets Low Volatility Equity Fund and WisdomTree Emerging Markets Dividend Growth Fund. Acronyms and total expense ratios for the products have not been disclosed.

The product is a closed-end bond fund, dedicated to infrastructure, which has been listed since 26 April on the New York Stock Exchange, under the acronym DMB. If the banking consortium (Morgan Stanley, Citigroup Global Markets and Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner & Smith Incorporated), exercises its greenshoe option in full, the proceeds from the sale may reach USD292.31m, on the basis of a price of USD15 per share.The objective is to provide investors with high revenue exempt from Federal income taxes. The fund is “sub-advised” by Standish Mellon Asset Management Company, and managed by Christine L. The private banking sector is the largest activity of the Swiss affiliate, with a 70% contribution to its revenues, “despite a contrasted environment and continued pressure on the Swiss banking model,” the bank says. In 2012, Crédit Agricole (Switzerland) completed its installation in Hong Kong, where a branch was opened in 2011. Crédit Agricole (Switzerland) last year earned consolidated net profits of CHF130.2m, down 17.6% compared with 2011.

Carlyle Group a recruté Marcel van Poecke, l’ancien patron de Petroplus, pour piloter ses investissements dans le secteur de l’énergie en Afrique et en Europe, rapporte le Financial Times. L’intéressé, un Néerlandais qui avait dirigé Petroplus lorsque Carlyle en détenait une partie entre 2005 et 2007, et une équipe de cinq autre dirigeants vont rejoindre la société américaine ce mois ci. Le groupe américain Cerberus Capital Management vient de boucler un fonds dédié aux actifs distressed à 2,61 milliards de dollars, rapporte l’agence Reuters. Cerberus avait lancé ce fonds, le Cerberus Institutionl Partners ou CIP V, en 2011, avec un objectif de collecte de 3,75 milliards de dollars, revu par la suite à la baisse.
A fin mars, les actifs totaux gérés par AllianceBernstein ont atteint 443,2 milliards de dollars, soit 13,2 milliards ou 3,1 % de plus que trois mois auparavant et 24,1 milliards ou 5,8 % de plus qu’au 31 mars 2012, a annoncé le groupe.Les souscriptions nettes ont porté sur 2,6 milliards de dollars au premier trimestre 2013 contre 5 milliards en octobre-décembre et des sorties nettes de 12,1 milliards pour la période correspondante de l’an dernier. Les rentrées nettes de la gestion institutionnelle ont représenté 3,3 milliards en janvier-mars de cette année contre 2,9 milliards pour octobre-décembre, tandis que celles du retail se limitaient à 0,2 milliard de dollars contre 5,3 milliards au quatrième trimestre 2012. Du côté des «clients privés», AllianceBernstein accuse des sorties nettes de 0,9 milliard pour janvier-mars 2013 contre 3,2 milliards au trimestre précédent.Le bénéfice net distribuable d’AllianceBernstein (the operating partnership) a gonflé pour le premier trimestre à 114,5 millions de dollars contre 71,7 millions pour octobre-décembre et 87,3 millions pour la période correspondante de l’an dernier.Quant au bénéfice net d’AllianceBernstein Holding (the publicly-traded partnership), il est ressorti à 38,2 millions contre 26,2 millions le trimestre précédent et 26,7 millions pour le premier trimestre 2012.
Pour 2012, le total des salaires des patrons du CAC 40 a atteint 92,7 millions d’euros, soit 2,319 millions par dirigeant, selon le classement annuel établi par Les Echos. C’est un recul de 4 % sur les rémunérations dues au titre de 2011. L’an dernier, Maurice Lévy, président du directoire de Publicis, a touché près de 20 millions d’euros, dont 16,2 millions de rémunération différée. Au titre de 2012, il encaissera 4,8 millions d’euros, uniquement en rémunération variable, ce qui le situe à la première place du classement des patrons du CAC 40. Jean-Paul Agon, le patron de L’Oréal, occupe la deuxième place avec près de 3,9 millions d’euros. Si les fixes sont souvent peu modifiés, les rémunérations variables ont, elles baissé, conséquence de la crise. Le fonds de pension californien CalPERS a annoncé le 30 avril avoir sélectionné Invesco Real Estate en tant que nouveau gérant pour son programme «Multifamily Real Estate». Ce partenariat, intitulé, Institutional Core Multifamily Investors, débutera avec une allocation de 250 millions de dollars qui sera investie prioritairement dans l’ouest des Etats-Unis. Les actifs du programme multifamily s'élèvent à environ 2 milliards de dollars, les actifs du portefeuille immobilier de CalPERS représentant au total 24,5 milliards de dollars.
Le gestionnaire américain Direxion (6,5 milliards de dollars) a fait admettre à la négociation le 1er mai deux ETF inversés à triple effet de levier, Direxion Daily Brazil Bear 3x Shares (acronyme : BRZS) and Direxion Daily South Korea Bear 3x Shares (KORZ).Le premier cherche à répliquer sur une base journalière, avant frais, 300 % de l’inverse de la performance du MSCI Brazil 25/50, le second ayant le même objectif avec comme référence le MSCI Korea 25/50, indique un communiqué.Ces deux fonds sont chargés à 1 %.
Les établissements devront faire des choix radicaux dans le nouveau monde de la banque d’investissement, estime le Boston Consulting Group (BCG) dans son dernier rapport sur le secteur, rapporte L’agefi. Derrière des établissements de premier plan sur les marchés de capitaux, qui tirent leur force des activités sur les marchés de taux, change et matières premières (FICC) comme JPMorgan, Goldman Sachs, Deutsche Bank et Barclays, le BCG distingue des banques aux RoE autour de 16% grâce aux économies d'échelle mais aussi des grandes banques portées sur les actions qui pourraient devenir des «institutions de haute couture», spécialisées dans les produits pour une clientèle sophistiquée (hedge funds, banques privées.). On pense à la Société Générale en dérivés actions. En tirant profit des relations de proximité tissées avec leurs clients, ces activités pourraient dégager des RoE de 13-14%.
Le fonds de Swiss Life AM qui se réfère à une stratégie dite SL amLeague actions euro TOP3 construite suivant une approche systématique et exploitant les données de la plateforme amLeague, sélectionne chaque mois trois asset managers dont la gestion a été retenue et agrégée en fonction des résultats d’un algorithme. Pour le mois de mai, les trois sociétés de gestion retenues sont respectivement BNP Paribas IP, Aberdeen AM et TOBAM. Elles se voient attribuer une pondération fixe égale à 4/9 pour la première, 3/9 pour la deuxième et 2/9 pour la dernière.
DWS a nommé Lars Ziehn cogérant de trois fonds précédemment géré par Klaus Kaldemorgen, dont le DWS Akkumula fund et le DWS Invest StepIn Akkumula fund, indique Citywire. Il assistera André Köttner, qui a rejoint le gestionnaire en décembre en provenance d’Union Investment. Lars Ziehn a rejoint DWS en 2006 et gère actuellement le DWS-Merkur-Fonds.
La BCE a abaissé jeudi de 0,25 point son taux refi, à 0,50%. Le taux de la facilité marginale de prêt a lui aussi été réduit, de 1,5% à 1%. En revanche, le taux de la facilité de dépôt reste inchangé, à 0%. Après la publication de mauvais indicateurs d’activité en zone euro pour le premier trimestre et d’une inflation largement inférieure (1,2%), à l’objectif cible de la BCE (2%), les marchés monétaires anticipaient une baisse des taux de 25 points de base. La plupart des économistes avaient aussi avancé à mai leur prévision d’assouplissement monétaire. Les observateurs estiment cependant qu’une baisse est loin de suffire à restaurer les canaux du crédit en zone euro, qui restent grippés, notamment dans les pays d’Europe du Sud. Les commentaires de Mario Draghi, à partir de 14h30, sur d'éventuelles mesures non conventionnelles destinées à régler ce problème, seront donc très attendus.
L’Irlande a abaissé ses prévisions de croissance pour les trois prochaines années, invoquant la récession sévère que traversent d’autres pays européens. L'économie irlandaise progressera de 1,3% au lieu de la hausse prévue de 1,5% annoncée en décembre. En 2014, la croissance devrait atteindre 2,4% et 2,8% l’année suivante.
Le Portugal prévoit un effort supplémentaire de réduction des dépenses publiques de 2,8 milliards d’euros en 2014 et le pays veut continuer de faire des économies jusqu’en 2016, soit au-delà du programme d’aide international dont Lisbonne espère sortir l’année prochaine. Pour 2015, la baisse des dépenses serait de l’ordre de 700 millions d’euros et de 1,2 milliard de plus en 2016.
