Après plus de trois mois de négociations, Kohlberg Kravis Roberts (KKR) a obtenu des souscripteurs de son fonds European 2 qu’ils lui apportent un peu plus de 400 millions d’euros dans un «annex fund» ; selon les informations de la Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, KKR avait initialement espéré obtenir de 730 millions d’euros. Ce viatique devrait permettre au capital-investisseur de redresser la situation financière de ProSieben Sat1, Kion et Pages Jaunes. C’est la première fois que KKR doit recourir à cette formule d’un fonds de complément.
L’allemand DEGI, filiale d’Aberdeen Property Investors, a annoncé l’acquisition pour 110 millions d’euros du siège italien de Procter & Gamble (P&G). Cet actif de 20.000 mètres carrés, dont l’achat avait été conclu dans son principe en juillet 2007, est affecté au portefeuille du fonds offert au public DEGI International. Le patrimoine immobilier géré par DEGI en Italie se monte à environ 860 millions d’euros.
Selon VDOS Stochastics, le BBVA Bolsa Europa Finanzas, dont l’indice de référence est le DJ Stoxx 600 Banks, affiche depuis le début de l’année la meilleure performance de tous les fonds espagnols depuis le début de l’année, avec 68,83 %, contre 68,25 % pour l’Accion FTSE Latibex Brasil, indique Cinco Días. Le Sabadell BS America Latina Bolsa enregistre un gain de 64,59 % et le Bestinvest Hedge Value Fund arrive au quatrième rang avec 63,06 %. L’Eurovalor Iberoamerica se classe cinquième avec une performance de 61,99 %, le sixième étant le Renta 4 Latinoamerica avec 58,83 %.
Les syndics de faillite des huit sociétés de portefeuille des frères Jesús et Jaime Salazar (les anciens dirigeants et propriétaires de Grupo SOS) risquent d'être liquidées puisque leur actif est essentiellement constitué d’actions du groupe agro-alimentaire qui ont servi de nantissement pour l’obtention de crédits bancaires, rapporte Expansión. A eux deux, les frères Salazar détenaient encore officiellement vendredi 25,70 % de Grupo SOS.
A fin juin, l’encours des 27 fonds ISR disponibles sur le marché espagnol représentait 844,8 millions d’euros, soit 12,3 % de moins qu’un an plus tôt, ce qui représente seulement 0,52 % des actifs totaux, contre 1,3 milliard fin 2007. Ces produits sont proposés par 19 sociétés de gestion d’actifs, dont -parmi les étrangères- Dexia (15 fonds), Pictet (un fonds) et Aviva (2 fonds).
Selon les statistiques de la Banque d’Espagne, les ménages espagnols détenaient fin juin 130,14 milliards d’euros sous forme de parts de fonds d’investissement, soit 18,3 % de moins qu’un an auparavant et le niveau le plus bas depuis septembre 2002, rapporte Cinco Días. Remaniement à la tête de PAI Partners (PAI). Selon L’Agefi, Lionel Zinsou, entré en juillet 2008 chez PAI Partners (PAI), va remplacer Dominique Mégret au poste de directeur général. Ce dernier quittera également l’année prochaine son poste de président. Son départ sera accompagné de celui de Bertrand Meunier, membre du comité exécutif du fonds et chez PAI depuis 27 ans.
Le quotidien Les Echos rapporte que, lors d’une conférence de presse durant les Journées d'été des Verts et Europe-Ecologie à Nîmes, l’eurodéputée Eva Joly (Europe-Ecologie) a interpellé vendredi la banque française BNP Paribas sur sa présence dans les paradis fiscaux. Elle a souhaité savoir ce que la banque française «a gagné», notamment dans ses «21 filiales aux Iles Caïman». Selon le journal, Eva Joly a précisé que le choix de la BNP n'était pas un hasard, la banque étant apparue très souvent en Afrique dans des montages sur le pétrole qui permettaient aux chefs d’Etat de dégager des fonds dans leurs propres comptes ouverts dans les paradis fiscaux. La présidente de la commission développement au Parlement européen a annoncé que Europe-Ecologie allait prendre l’initiative d’interpeller ces multinationales, souhaitant la «création d’une commission d’enquête chargée d'établir le rôle des paradis fiscaux en matière de développement».
Le capital-investisseur KKR, Goldman Sachs et les autres investisseurs qui ont acheté Dollar General pour 7,3 milliards de dollars en 2007 s’attendent à toucher un dividende exceptionnel de 200 millions de dollars à l’occasion de la réintroduction partielle en Bourse du groupe de distribution, rapporte la Börsen-Zeitung. L’opération devrait permettre de lever au total jusqu'à 750 millions de dollars.

Samedi, l’espagnol BBVA a confirmé que sa filiale américaine BBVA Compass a acheté à la Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) la Guaranty Bank d’Austin (Texas). Compass acquiert ainsi 12 milliards de dollars de total de bilan et 11,5 milliards de dollars de dépôts, 300.000 clients, 106 succursales au Texas et 58 autres en Californie. Cela permet aussi à Compass (750 agences, désormais) de se renforcer dans la banque de détail, la banque des entreprises et la gestion de fortune.
Sur les cinq dernières années, le Vice Fund de Mutuals, qui investit au moins 80 % de son encours (80,3 millions de dollars actuellement) dans les groupes tabacoles, les brasseries, les casinos et les producteurs d’armements, affiche une performance de 18 %, alors que l’Ave Maria Catholic Values Fund de Schwartz Investment Trust n’a pratiquement rien rapporté, indique la Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung. The rebound will likely be “relatively slow at the beginning,” in light of considerable difficulty in gaining access to credit for many households and businesses. Bernanke insisted that “a new financial regulatory framework” needs to be created in the United States and in the world, which would draw “lessons from the crisis, and which would prevent a repetition of the events of the past two years.” Jean-Claude Trichet, chairman of the European Central Bank, has also stated that there is a mountain of work to be done, and that regulatory changes are needed to restore the stability of the financial system.
Nouriel Roubini says in the Financial Times that the recovery is likely to be «anaemic and below trend» in advanced economies and that there is «a big risk of a double-dip recession».
The United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment (UN PRI) has removed five signatories from its membership lists, as they did not fulfil their annual “reporting & assessment” obligations, which are required, though the signatories receive a one year grace period to comply. In total, 284 signatories participated in the PRI Report on Progress, 2009, which represents a 98% response rate.The institutions ejected from the initiative are DESBAN (Brazil), Christopher Reynolds Foundation (United States), Foresters Community Finance (Australia), Oasis Group Holdings and Trinity Holdings (South Africa). In addition, three institutions voluntarily left the UN PRI: Mennonite Mutual Aid (MMA), New York State Teachers’ Retirement System (NYSTRS), and Rapaki Property Group. 93 new members have meanwhile signed up for the charter. Currently, the PRI has 573 members, of whom 182 are “asset owners,” 282 are asset managers, and 109 are professional service partners.

RBC Capital Markets, the finance and investment banking unit of the Royal Bank of Canada, has recruited Marc Fleischman as managing director and head of sales for hedge funds in Europe. He previously worked at Citigroup.
The British pension fund for Barclays (BUKRF) has appointed Andre Konstantinow as head of manager selection, a newly-created position. Konstantinow joins the firm from Morgan Stanley Investment Management, where he was senior manager, largely in charge of hedge fund managers in Europe and emerging markets.
The private bank Close Brothers, advised by Greenhill, has made an offer to acquire Kleinwort Benson from Commerzbank, which is seeking up to GBP300m for the firm, The Sunday Times reports. Among the other potential buyers are the management of Kleinwort Benson, supported by Simon Robertson, the chairman of Rolls Royce, and by Sir John Bond, chairman of Vodafone.The new CEO of Close Brothers, Preben Prebenson, is seeking to strengthen the group’s private banking activities; he is planning to create an online fund management tool for high net worth clients, like those available from Fidelity and Hargreaves Lansdown.
The Deutsche Börse has announced that it has admitted four new “strategy” ETFs from ETF Securities to trading on the XTF segment of its Xetra electronic platform. All four are German-registered products. The products are the ETFS Dax 2x Long Fund, which replicates the evolution of the LavDAX x2 Index, the ETFS Dax 2x Short Fund, which is based on the ShortDAX® x2 Index, and the ETFS Dow Jones EURO STOXX Double Short (2x) Fund, whose benchmark is the Dow Jones Euro STOXX 50 Double Short Index. Management commission for the three ETFs is 0.60%. The fourth new product is the ETFS Dow Jones EURO STOXX 50 Leveraged (2x) Fund, which reproduces the evolution of the Dow Jones EURO STOXX 50 Leveraged Index, for which management commission is set at 0.40%. With the addition of these new products, the XTF segment now lists 481 ETFs.

After a disastrous year in 2008, the publicly-traded hedge fund sector (in which most funds are listed on the London Stock Exchange) has continued to underperform, deapite a recovery in hedge funds and private equity in the past 7 months, the Financial Times reports. Publicly-traded funds of funds are doing worst of all. On average, funds of hedge funds are trading 18.2% below the value of their assets, according to an RBS study cited by the FT.

However, the decline in annual terms is slowing: it was 20.7% in May, and 21.8% in April, while the steepest monthly contraction was in November 2008, at 29.2%.

Continuing its cross-listing strategy, iShares (Barclays Global Investors, BlackRock group) has added five German-registered ETF funds to trading on the Bolsa Mexicana de Valores (Mexico City). The funds now available on the Mexican stock exchange are the iShares DAX (DE), iShares DJ Stoxx 600 (DE), and three bond products: iShares eb.rexx Government Germany (DE), eb.rexx Government Germany 1.5-2.5 (DE) and iShares eb.rexx Government Germany 2.5-5.5 (DE).In May, iShares took over the NAFTRAC ETF from the Mexican bank National Financiera.
