Accola, Investeam et MiddleNext ont présenté le 7 février la création d’un fonds commun de placement (FCP) qui permettra à une vingtaine de valeurs moyennes françaises cotées d'émettre des obligations achetées par le FCP et dont les parts seront souscrites par des investisseurs professionnels.Alors que les besoins des PME et ETI sont énormes dans un contexte où le financement bancaire devient rare et cher, Accola et Investeam ont élaboré un schéma répondant à cette demande sous la forme d’un FCP contractuel à horizon, Micado France 2018, dont Portzamparc Gestion prend la responsabilité de la gestion.Les deux entreprises d’investissement CM-CIC Securities et Portzamparc société de Bourse, ont approché les sociétés émettrices et ont élaboré, avec le conseil juridique de CMS Bureau Francis Lefebvre et Fidal, une méthodologie commune pour l'émission d’obligations à taux fixe de maturité 6 ans simultanément par plusieurs sociétés cotées de taille moyenne, leur permettant ainsi d’accéder pour la première fois au marché obligataire. Les obligations sont émises par des sociétés dont la capitalisation boursière est comprise entre 30 millions et 1 milliard d’euros et dont le chiffre d’affaires ne dépasse pas les 2 milliards d’euros.Portzamparc Gestion sélectionne pour sa part les sociétés sur la base de leur qualité de crédit et vise une diversification du fonds, notamment sectorielle. L’objectif de taille globale du fonds est de 300 millions d’euros, chaque entreprise devant émettre entre 5 et 20 millions d’euros. Il est à noter que le fonds ne prévoit pas de mutualisation des risques, chaque émetteur garde sa quote-part de risques.Au terme de sa phase de constitution, le portefeuille comprendra une poche d’obligations ETI cotées non notées du fait de leur taille de 80% et une poche de 20% d’obligations françaises corporate hors financières très liquides de sociétés notées en catégorie d’investissement à l’achat et dont la proportion augmentera jusqu'à 40% à maturité.Les obligations des sociétés, cotées sur Alternext ou Euronext, seront cotées sur Alternext. Le fonds est commercialisé par Investeam.
Pioneer Investments vient de lancer un fonds entièrement dédié au marché obligataire italien, rapporte Bluerating. Appelé Pioneer Obbligazionario Sistema Italia a distribuzione, le produit sera en effet composé de titres de l’Etat italien et d’obligations d’entreprises de qualité élevée émises par des entreprises sises en Italie, ayant des bilans sains et des projets convaincants.
En janvier, les trois fonds immobiliers offerts au public Deka-ImmobilienEuropa, Deka-ImmobilienGlobal et WestInvest InterSelect ont affiché des souscriptions nettes de 400 millions d’euros contre 320 millions pour le mois correspondant de 2011. Sur ce total, environ 270 millions d’euros provenaient du réinvestissement des dividendes distribués par les deux fonds Deka. Cela posé, les souscriptions nettes de janvier 2010 étaient ressorties à 415 millions d’euros.
Le 3 février, la CNMV a enregistré le Foncaixa Deuda Publica España, FI, d’InverCaixa Gestión. Comme son nom l’indique, ce nouveau produit sera investi essentiellement en obligations d’Etat espagnoles, tout en ayant la faculté d’investir jusqu'à 35 % de son encours dans de la dette publique d’autres pays européens.Selon le DICI, ce fonds s’adresse surtout à des souscripteurs désireux d’investir exclusivement en dette publique espagnole comme des compagnies d’assurances et des mutuelles d’accident du travail. Pour la première fois, Barbara Knoflach, qui dirige SEB Asset Management, n’a pas exclu mardi que le fonds immobilier offert au public ImmoInvest (plus de 6 milliards d’euros) doive être liquidé, rapporte le Handelsblatt. Ce fonds, dont les remboursements sont gelés depuis mai 2010, n’a toujours pas atteint les 30 % de liquidité jugés nécessaires à une reprise des rachats. Et la vente de l’argenterie de famille, 19 immeubles du complexe de la Potsdamer Platz à Berlin, traine en longueur. Ces actifs ont une valeur vénale de 1,4 milliard d’euros, mais le marché est difficile et les acquéreurs prennent leur temps, alors que la date-butoir pour la réouverture est mai 2012… comme pour le Credit Suisse Euroreal, l’autre grand poids lourd actuellement fermé aux remboursements.

Si JP Morgan Chase semble avoir jeté l'éponge, la liste des repreneurs potentiels pour les activités de gestion d’actifs de la Deutsche Bank, et notamment de DWS Etats-Unis, comporte toujours six noms, indique Mutual Fund Wire ; en effet, Guggenheim Partners se serait joint au petit groupe restant en finale et qui comprend Power Corp of Canada, Macquarie Group, State Street Corp, Ameriprise Financial et Apax Partners.
Dans quels domaines les sociétés de gestion retail vont-elles consentir un effort d’investissement cette année ? Selon un sondage de Cerulli Associates, 75% des sociétés prévoient de renforcer les effectifs dédiés au marketing.Cerulli souligne que de nombreuses organisations sont en train de mettre en place des structures qui mettent le marketing et la vente au même niveau. Une évolution notable par rapport à l'époque où le marketing était au service du département «ventes». «Il est vrai que la fonction marketing est conçue pour soutenir les efforts de distribution mais désormais, les deux groupes travaillent en étroite collaboration pour mettre en œuvre des stratégies par divers moyens comme les sites internet, les emails, les médias sociaux, la génération de prospects», explique Alec Papazian, analyste senior chez Cerulli.
Skandia Investment Group a écarté Julius Lipner d’Aviva Investors de son Skandia UK Strategic Best Ideas Fund, un fonds réunissant les meilleures idées d’investissement de plusieurs gérants actions britanniques. Ce mandat représentait 7 millions de livres sur un encours total de 52,1 millions de livres à fin décembre. «Nous avons pris cette décision en raison des incertitudes et des conséquences inconnues créées par l’annonce d’Aviva Investors de revoir sa gestion actions active et de se concentrer sur les taux, l’immobilier et les solutions multi-classes d’actifs», explique Lee Freeman-Shor, gérant de portefeuille de Skandia Investment Group. Les 7 millions de livres seront répartis équitablement entre les autres gérants du fonds (Richard Packett et Mark Lyttleton de BlackRock, Phil Hardy de Polar Capital, Colin McLean de SVM, Tim Steer d’Artemis et Paul Casson d’Henderson).
Schroders va lancer le Schroder Strategic Bond Fund, un fonds obligataire à rendement absolu. Le fonds, qui ne sera pas commercialisé en France, sera géré par Gareth Isaac, gérant de portefeuille senior, qui a rejoint la société de gestion britannique en provenance de GLG en 2011. Il sera assisté de Bob Jolly, responsable de la global macro.Sans contrainte, le fonds sera investi dans des obligations gouvernementales, des titres de sociétés investment grade, des obligations à haut rendement et des obligations émergentes, qu’elles soient émises par des entreprises ou des gouvernements. En outre, le fonds pourra utiliser des dérivés pour limiter le risque de baisse.
Le groupe suédois SEB a fusionné sa boutique londonienne Key Asset Management avec son équipe d’investissement alternatif (AIT) de Stockholm, rapporte Hedge Week. Le nouvel ensemble sera dirigé par Mikael Spångberg, comme managing director basé à Stockholm, et par Chris Rule comme directeur général adjoint et CIO, à Londres. Key AM est spécialiste des fonds de hedge funds tandis que SEB AITa une expertise dans l’amorçage et l’incubation.Ce regroupement coïncide avec le départ de Chris Jones, qui a passé sept ans à la tête de Key AM.
Selon nos informations, François Carlotti, arrivé en septembre 2010 en tant que directeur général délégué et directeur du développement de Métropole Gestion, a quitté l'établissement le 31 décembre dernier. A l'évidence, la société spécialiste de la gestion value se recentre sur sa clientèle première - les investisseurs institutionnels - et remet en cause son incursion dans l’univers des conseillers en gestion de patrimoine indépendants. Le départ de François Carlotti n’est que la dernière preuve tangible de ce changement de stratégie. Le départ du responsable suit en effet de près le départ de Bruno Zaraya, ex directeur commercial retail France, en charge du développement commercial auprès des CGPI, des banques privées et des fonds de fonds chez Métropole. Arrivé en janvier 2011, ce dernier a rejoint neuf mois plus tard la société de gestion Ginjer AM où il est désormais associé-directeur commercial. Plus tôt, l'été dernier, Métropole Gestion avait aussi mis fin à son expérience en multigestion destinée également aux CGPI. En termes d’encours, cette activité n’avait, il est vrai, jamais décollé. De fait, François Merle, le responsable de l’allocation a lui aussi quitté la société de gestion. Reste à savoir quelles sont les raisons de cette volte-face. François-Marie Wokjik, président de Métropole Gestion compte, à l’occasion d’une prochaine conférence de presse, expliquer les nouvelles ambitions de sa société et ses atouts auprès de la clientèle institutionnelle. A ce titre, depuis le début de l’année, les marchés lui sont un allié précieux. Avec une gestion typée, Métropole Gestion qui a souffert lors du second semestre 2011 voit ses fonds se reprendre nettement. En un mois et quelques jours, deux de ses fonds Métropole Sélection – le fonds «best of» de la gamme - a progressé de plus de 12 % et Métropole Avenir Europe de près de 16 %.
Pour janvier, le Pimco Total Return Fund (250,5 milliards de dollars) géré par Bill Gross a gagné 2,44 % contre 0,45 % pour son indice de référence, et il a enregistré 230,6 millions de souscriptions nettes, les premières depuis quatre mois, indique Mutual Fund Wire. Pour 2011, le fonds avait sous-performé son benchmark de 3,68 points et subi des sorties nettes de 5 milliards de dollars.
Mardi, Goldman Sachs Asset Management (828 milliards de dollars d’encours fin décembre) a annoncé l’acquisition auprès d’Old Mutual Asset Management (OMAM, 224 milliards de dollars fin septembre) du gestionnaire spécialiste de la prévoyance retraite à contribution définie Dwight Asset Management (42 milliards de dollars fin décembre). As of 31 December, assets in collective investment institutions in Spain totalled EUR201.78bn, 7.8% less than at the end fo 2010, the Inverco association of asset management firms states in its annual report. Assets under management by real estate funds were down by 26.6%, while assets at Spanish investment firms were down 7.6%, Spanish funds were down 7.5%, and foreign asset management firms were down 6.3%.Net redemptions from Spanish funds contracted 65% compared with 2010, to EUR8.421bn, compared with EUR23.889bn.Transfers from one fund to another totalled EUR27.844bn, which represents 55% of gross subscriptions (EUR50.692bn) and 20.8% of average assets in 2011.Lastly, the number of shareholders last year declined by 7.4% to a total of 6.2 million as of the end of December.
The additional retirement institution for public employees (ERAFP) has launched a consultation to award a real estate asset management mandate. The consultation will issue two allocations, corresponding to two types of mandates.The first will be for an allocation to private properties in France, mostly offices, commercial and residential properties. This allocation will select three candidates, two of them for standby mandates. The total investment amount will be about EUR310m in the next three years.The second mandate is for an allocation to private properties in Europe. This allocation will also select three candidates, two of them for standby mandates. Investments will total about EUR345m in the first three years.The new mandates must comply with the ERAFP SRI charter.
SEI has announced that it has won a fund administration, trust and custody mandate for the new range of Irish-registered Qualified Investment Funds (QIF) from the London-based asset manager Asset Value Investors (AVI, USD2.6bn in assets). AVI has chosen the QIF formula which allows investors a regulated vehicle while preserving flexibility of investment strategies.
On Tuesday, Goldman Sachs Asset Management (USD828bn in assets as of the end of December) announced that it has acquired the defined-contribution retirement planning specialist Dwight Asset Management (USD42bn in assets as of the end of December) from Old Mutual Asset Management (USD224bn as of the end of September). The sale price for this deal which will be finalised in second quarter has not been disclosed.
Prudential Asset Management has recruited Jeremy Hall as head of sales for northern Asia, as part of a development of its activities serving institutional investors, Asian Investor reports. Hall, who had previously worked at RREEF (Deutsche Bank), will be based in Hong Kong, and will serve China, Korea, Taiwan and Japan.
Sal Naro, former head of international bonds at UBS and a former co-managing partner at Sailfish Capital, has launched its own boutique, Coherence Capital Partners, based in New York, a specialist in bonds, Investment Europe reports. The creation of Coherence Capital is related to an MBO at the insurance entity of Jefferson National, Naro’s last employer, where he had been a shareholder, vice-chairman of Jefferson National Financial and CEO of Jefferson National Asset Management. The management team at Coherence Capital includes Vincent Mistretta, former head of portfolio management at Jefferson AM, Greg McKay, former chief operating officer at Jefferson AM, and Robert Del Grande, former CFO at Jefferson AM.
The European Commission will today present a proposal which would create a legal status for European foundations, which would allow institutions to be active in other EU countries beyond their country of origin, by eliminating taxation obstacles, Expansión reports.The foundations are important economic actors, whose assets are estimated at over EUR350bn. The proposals would preserve a double system which would allow for national regimes to coexist alongside the European regime.Political foundations would be excluded from the rules, as they are already covered by separate legislation.

Schroders is going to launch in the United Kingdom the Schroder Strategic Bond Fund (subject to FSA approval) which aims to achieve a total return by investing across a broad range of fixed income markets. The fund will be managed by Gareth Isaac, senior portfolio manager, who joined Schroders in 2011 from GLG. The alternate manager will be Bob Jolly, head of global macro.The benchmark unconstrained fund will invest in fixed income opportunities across the globe while actively allocating between government bonds, investment grade corporates, high yield corporates and emerging market debt of both governments and credit. Additionally the fund may use derivatives to limit downside risk, with 80% of the portfolio being hedged back to sterling.
The Swedish SEB group has merged its London-based boutique Key Asset Management with its alternative investment team (AIT) in Stockholm, Hedge Week reports. The new merged entity will be led by Mikael Spångberg as managing director based in Stockholm, and Chris Rule as deputy CEO and CIO, in London, Key AM is specialised in funds of hedge funds, while SEB AIT has expertise in seed capital and incubation. The merger coincides with the departure of Chris Jones, who spent seven years as head of Key AM.
The Ethos foundation on 7 February recommended that shareholders in Novartis reject the reelection of professors William Brody and Srikant Datar at the general shareholders’ meeting to be held on 23 February 2012, due to the impossibility of voting on pay scales this year. The two men are members of the remuneration committee, which did not recommend any changes to the structure of pay scales, despite the opposition of 39% of shareholders at the general shareholders’ meeting in 2011. The foundation, which includes more than 120 Swiss pension funds and foundations, claims that the Novartis CEO, Joe Jimenez, was paid CHF15.7m in 2011. It also increased 21.7% compared with 2010, even though profits fell.The total pay for the chairman of the board of directors, Daniel Vasella, was CHF13.5m, This far exceeds the pay for other non-executive chairmen of the board at international groups comparable to Novartis, and those of other non-executive chairmen at other Swiss firms belonging to the SMI index.
TheScreener is launching a new service to evaluate directly comparable funds and ETFs, Agefi Switzerland reports. The service provides a way to exhaustively determine when passively-managed investments outperform actively-managed investments, and vice versa. The new service covers 15,000 funds and ETFs.
According to a survey by TNS Infratest on behalf of Axa Investment Managers (Axa IM) of a representative sample of 1,000 people in September 2011, 77% of German investors do not know what the term “emerging markets” means (38%), or give an incorrect definition (39%). This is not surprising since only 1% of Germans have already invested in emerging markets, says Karin Kleinemas, head of marketing for northern Europe. 69% of respondents did not know that emerging markets have more potential for growth than already industrialised countries.
In what areas will retail asset management firms invest effort this year? According to a survey by Cerulli Associates, 75% of firms are planning to scale up their marketing efforts.Cerulli points out that many firms are in the process of setting up structures that put marketing and sales on a par. This is a notable development compared with the era when marketing was a section of the sales department.“It is true that the marketing function is designed to support sales efforts, but now, the two groups work in close collaboration to develop strategies via several media including the internet, email, social media, and generating prospects,” explains Alec Papazian, a senior analyst at Cerulli.
